The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Frederiksberg
Located between Noerrebro and Vesterbro you’ll find Frederiksberg, which is actually a municipality in itself but completely surrounded by Copenhagen. Here there are several fine theaters, from the experimental to the great Det Ny Teater (The New Theater) which specializes in transcribing the great London and New York musicals into Danish, and has done so for several years with huge success. In Frederiksberg you’ll find Denmark’s most beautiful (and expensive) city villas. These 4-5 square miles form the Beverly Hills of Copenhagen. Here you’ll also find Frederiksberg Have (Garden) which sports huge outdoor concerts, from classical to electronic dance music. To top it off, dining options range from cozy family restaurants to some of the area’s most trendy cafés.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'm from Copenhagen and I can tell you, that the majority of reviews here are posted for the wrong castle. Tourists seems to confuse FrederiksbErg (with and 'e') with FrederiksbOrg (with an 'o'). Frederiksberg is located in Copenhagen, yellow, built in the 18th century and NOT open to the public. Frederiksborg is located in Hillerød (40 mins away), is red, has spires and towers, is built in the 17th century and IS open to the public. Please post you reviews the right place.

As many others have stated, this Frederiksberg Slot in Frederiksberg/Copenhagen (the yellow building) is being confused with Fredriksborg Slot in Hillerod. All the beautiful castle/ palace, garden, and fountain photos are in Hillerod. You cannot visit the inside of Frederiksberg Slot in Frederiksberg/Copenhagen but there is a great park across the street as well as the zoo. Both are worth a visit. It is easy to get here on the metro too.

We took a day trip to Frederiksberg slot and Kronborg Slot, taking the train and walking from both train stations. We loved the walking trails and gardens surrounding this castle. Absolutely gorgeous. Glad we went.

Nice walk, nice gardens but DO NIT CONFUSE WITH Frederiksborg Castle. Most of the photos on Trip Advisor are of a baroque castle which looks amazing, but is actually Frederiksborg Castle, 20 miles away! This is Frederiksborg Slot, a yellow barracks and garden, it’s a nice walk but NOT THE CASTLE!! Beware! Photo on my post is the Frederiksborg Slot which is where you are going!

You can only watch the castle from outside because it contain Royal Danish Military Academy. Most of the reviews about Frederiksberg Castle is wrong because they confuse it with Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. It is a big park and zoo next to the castle which you can visit.

This castle is absolutely beautiful and quite magnificent. There is so much history throughout the many rooms and the cathedral. We did a fantastic tour of the castle and cathedral but know there is so much more we could have seen but it would take so much time. Certainly a must do while in Denmark

Stunning gardens, lots of walking to see different areas, places to sit in shade / open sun, and lots of wildlife. Cracking views. Also went on the boat ride (cheap) which was lovely to have some history, mellow taking in of views, and lovely way to rest the feet! Reasonable coffee / icecream hut too to top it off. Didn't have a huge amount of time left, so didn't go into the castle, but we'll worth a trip for the gardens. Plenty of 7-11s on the way to take a picnic too

My wife and I walked around and spent a little time taking in this site. Interesting but nothing special. There were other sightseers here, some with cameras. It's worth checking out. Reviewed by Miles A. of Boca Raton, FL

Most of the reviews posted here are not for the Frederiksberg Palace in Copenhagen, but for the Frederiksborg Palace in nearby Hillerød. Please note that the Frederiksberg Palace is generally NOT open to the public as it is the home of the Royal Danish Defence College. The Frederiksborg Palace in Hillerød IS open to the public.
Frederiksberg Palace is a eary 18th century building surrounded by the two parks Frederiksberg Have and Søndermarken. The parks are worth a visit even though you cannot visit the castle itself.

There appears to be 2 castles with very similar names. Half of the reviews seem to be about the castle 40 minutes train ride from Copenhagen. The castle in Copenhagen is not open for visitors. Waste of time. Web-site does not open.

Here you wrote is "castle" not "slot". They are different.

Not, there are not: Castle is the proper English translation of the Danish word 'slot'

Hallo, wo kann man denn in den Bus einsteigen? Wo sind die Haltestellen?

We are short on time and need to pick between Frederiksberg Castle or Kronsberg Castle. We have 7 traveling all together. We have a full day for this but just need to decide which one to pick. Any opinions on which one is better?
Written 22 May 2019
You both confuse Frederiksberg Castle (this one) with Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød. Please notice that one is with an 'e' and one is with an 'o'. Frederiksberg Castle is not open to the public as it is a military academy. Frederiksborg on the other hand is. Please not that most photos and reviews posted here has made the same confusion.

I see that there is a Frederiksberg Palace as well as a Frederiksborg Castle which is further from central Copenhagen. My question is about Frederiksberg Palace near the train station - their web site says they have guided tours on the last Saturday of each month, but can you get in without doing a tour at other times? Unfortunately we are not there on the last Saturday of the month.

You have mixed two locations. One is FredericksbErg Palace and the other is FredericksbOrg Castle.

It is actually a military facility now - so one can only see the church (if I remenber correctly). The park is nice tough. You can go to Rosenborg Slot instead - this is were the crown jewels are kep.

Hi Annie,
I think you've mixed up Frederiksberg Slot which is located in Hillerod with the one on Copenhagen :) As your review is for Copenhagen one.

... and then there are Fredensborg and Kronborg Castles in Helsingør.
Enjoy!

I would encourage you to make sure your phone has a "maps" app. It will take you 17 minutes to walk there. 1.7km.
