This place was very important, historically. From the monastery, you can see the border of Turkey (only 1, 2 km away).

The religious, cultural, and political significance of the Khor Virap makes it a must see gem of Armenia. The views of Ararat on good days are breathtaking. The border with Turkey is a stone's throw and the mountains of Azerbaijan and Iran are also visible...More

The monastery represents an incredible story how Christianity begins in Armenia. The ancient church is dark and cool, as you would expect, so you can easily imagine how first christians lived here. You can see beautiful view of Ararat mountain and fields around. Spend some...More

The site itself is beautiful. The monastery is well preserved and is stunning with nice views of Ararat. However there were Russian tour groups with selfie sticks polluting the area. Such a site should be enjoyed in peace. While the church was nice, it was...More

The week prior I had visited the incredible Gergeti Trinity Church in Georgia. It was just as spectacular. Of course, the main draw for this area is Mount Ararat. And when you couple that famous mountain with a first century monastery, the experience is extraordinary....More

We were traveling Yerevan to Goris and on the way we decided to visit this wonderful church. The best view on mount Ararat opens from there. It's mind blowing. The church itself is very old and represents the ancient Armenian culture and architecture. There was...More

1. I will go to Armenia in early April. Is the weather suitable to go to Khor Virap ? Is it snowing in April? 2. My legs are not really strong. I don't like climbing staircase. I feel my knees a little bit painful after climbing down staircase continuously for 10 minutes. Is it suitable for me to go there? Is there any bus from the city to this Monastery? Thanks for your advice. Mandy
