I am visiting "long lost" cousins in Perth and my aunt, uncle and some cousins are buried there so we went to have a look. It is tranquil, and unobtrusive though covering a huge area. Headstones lie flat. Graves are otherwise undelimited giving the various areas the semblance of parkland. Nicely kept too.

Not a bad place to contemplate the meaning of life. Lovely flowers & interesting to note how various religions look after the departed 's resting places It would appear that being a Catholic has its advantages if one considers the flowers & maintainence. I must admit , as a non practising Anglican I was a bit ashamed of the shabby... More

My mum has been laid to rest here. It's a very nice cemetery. It's well maintained and has beautiful gardens throughout.

The largest cemetery in the Metro area, Karrakatta caters for all families and acknowledges all faiths. It is a very well kept establishment with chapels, burial grounds, cremations and mausoleums. It also has a history walk that points to significant historical figures burial sites. It has a cafe as well as meeting rooms. It is on the Perth to Fremantle... More

Many famous West Australians have been laid to rest in Karrakatta Cemetery. Indeed, in WA "in Karraktta" is a synonym for "dead." Heath Ledger, who came from a well-known WA family, is interred here. You can easily spend an hour or two looking around. I have been to several funerals here. Cemeteries are spooky place, but people seem fascinated by... More

Western Australia is a hierarchical society. The creme de la creme (along with a lot of lesser lights) are laid to rest in Karrakatta. "He's in Karrakatta" is a synonym for "dead" in Perth. Ten VCs are interred here, along with former Governor General Sir Paul Hasluck. The ashes of actor Heath Ledger, the scion of a prominent Perth family,... More

Unfortunately there are people out there that are just plain thievies. If you are visiting a grave take your bag, do not leave anything of value in sight of those hiding in the bushes

It's a cemetery, an obvious place we all try to avoid. Well maintained grounds with a lot of friends and relatives buried here. Nice to come occasionally to remember past days with friends that have now gone

Karrakatta Cemetery is one of the two historic cemeteries in the metropolitan area. The other being Fremantle Cemetery. Karrakatta is accessible by train form Perth or Fremantle and also by bus. The grounds are beautiful and many colonial families are interned there. A shop is at the entrance and the office and administration is always there to assist with information... More
