We took a river cruise on the Kalgan Queen boat, a 4 hour cruise covering Oyster harbour and sailing the Kalgan river. Captain 'Jack' gave awesome commentary, very funny at times with lots of history told. Enjoyed tea/coffee and damper, so delicious. Weather was kind to us and enjoyed the day. Highly recommend this trip, great for families too.

The Kalgan River was first explored by the Frenchman Nicolas Baudin, in the ship Geographe. The river rises in the Stirling Ranges and enters the sea at Oyster Harbour, near Albany. The Kalgan is 140 kms (87 miles) long. It's a pleasure to paddle, much of it is in its natural state and wildlife in abundant.

Definitely recommend this cruise, the commentary by Jack was excellent. We got to see ospreys, sea eagles, a seal and no joke dancing pelicans. The scenery was beautiful. We also got to taste local produce from Albany such as oysters, strawberries, honey and damper, along with a cup of tea or coffee. You will not be disappointed! Thank you Jack, we really enjoyed ourselves.

The Kalgan river is teaming with wildlife! Big ospreys birds nests as they dive for fish, lots of black bream, mulloway, black cockatoos and kangeroos!
Luke Pens trail is great for hikers and there’s plenty of bends in the river for picnics or reading a book.
Huge trees!!!!
Nice clean water so swimming is recommended.
Upper and lower bridges great for fishing or find a small beach to drop a line in

The most informative few hours with skipper Jack who has learnt his stuff. Wonderful interaction with the bird life. Could possibly have stopped somewhere a little earlier for toilet stop and stretch of legs for anyone in need. Otherwise, top cruise!

This river provides opportunity for rowing, kayaking, bream fishing, crabbing, photography or walking along the Luke Pen trail and soaking up a beautiful tranquil part of the Great Southern region.

The Kalgan River attracts bird-watchers; many of the birds are endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. The scenic river is also favoured by fishermen. It's also good for kayaking and canoeing. The lower section of the Kalgan is a sunken river valley, with steep hillsides and some granite outcrops. The Kalgan River is 140kms (87 miles) long. Its estuary is in Oyster Harbour, which is permanently connected to King George Sound, near Albany.

Kalgan River is in the south of Western Australia. It is 140 km (90 miles) long. It flows through lush forests and rolling farmland. Kalgan River is a favorite spot for anglers; it's also much-loved by bird-watchers, who can find many species endemic to WA. Apart from fishing, Kalgan River is well-known for kayaking and canoeing. There are numerous walking trails along the river. Cruising for pleasure along the river is also popular. The Kalgan River finally enters Oyster Harbor, near Albany. Oyster Harbor is a well-known water-bird habitat. The Kalgan is around 4 1/2 hours from Perth by car, or an hour by plane.

A lovely way to spend a few hours or a day just relaxing, kayaking, boating, picnic-ing or just sitting in a deck chair pondering the world.
