The Vakhan Passage is actually a part of Afghanistan but you can drive on the Tajik side of the border along the Panj river and pretty much roll all the way along on some bumpy but uniquely situated roads with some amazing scenery and notes...More

I cannot recommend taking a drive through the Wakhan Valley enough. The scenery is so incredible that it's practically alien. You get a view into Afghanistan, and even some peaks that might be in Pakistan? Centuries-old fortresses line the valley and perhaps the final resting...More

What a beautiful drive through the mountains where every turn is more beautiful then the one before. The striations on the rocks, the symitry of the mountains the waterfalls was indeed a wondrous sight.

Great hiking/trekking in this area. Afghan side is possible to get visa for but expensive (USD150) and only limited access. Tajiks are amazingly hospitable.
