We visited in winter, and most of the animals were asleep. Have been there in summer as well, the zoo is probably a bit better at summer time. In summer, also the petting zoo is open with some domestic animals to be shown to the...More

We spent 2 hours walking round this well laid out zoo. Very good collection of owls, a golden eagle, beavers, brown bears, a cute baby polar bear and parents, wolves, wolverine, Lynx, arctic fox, etc. It would have been an enjoyable walk around the woods...More

We got on the bus (costs 15.50 euros each way) and arrived at the zoo in the morning. Zoo is 17 euros for one adult, and worth every cent. It was a super cold day but there was sunshine so all the bears were out...More

Ranua Zoo was on my bucket list for a while, as an interesting place to meet the wildlife in Arctic. When I found out that the new bear cub had been born, I just could not wait any longer. So much cuteness! Besides the bears,...More

Great zoo with plenty of animals, we visited in winter so as expected some animals were not keen to be out and about. There were enough animals to be seen though, and there were peek-holes into some of the dens so you could spy on...More

Came in the winter and all the animals were nowhere to be seen. Very hard to get to, the public transport was unreliable and all of the kiosks and toilets inside were closed.

I am not certain why this wonderful place is called a ZOO....apart from the fact that it IS "an establishment which maintains a collection of wild animals for display to the public"....to me that image falls WAY short of what you will find at Wildlife...More

take care during winter - the paths are icy in places. I saw some tourists taking small plastic sleds with them and sledding some of the downhill paths.
Hello! Do I need a guide for touring the zoo? Can I do it on my own without a guide? thanks!

You don't need a guide. The zoo has good information boards and maps, and the whole route is one path so you won't get lost.
I am staying at Gulo Gulo in March with my two adult sons and I was wondering if it is necessary to book a tour or is it possible just to visit it on our own in our own time? Also, not really related to the zoo, but, did you notice if there was any form of transport from the holiday village to the supermarket? Many thanks.

HI They run a minibus to the supermarket from reception every day at 5pm. You can visit the zoo on your own- everything is well signposted, or you can book a private tour, or a private tour at night with no one else around... More
