I am a little ashamed to say that I have lived just north of Aberdeen for 30 years, and I have never been to this swimming pool. In Aug 2023 I had the grandkids to look after, aged 7 and 9y. It was sunny and I decided it was high time to try Stonehaven pool. It was mobbed, and parking was hard to find, but the pool was an utter revelation! The water was SO warm! I think it was £14 for the three of us, for all day. The shallow end was pretty full, but as inflatables are only allowed half way, the top end of the pool wasn’t busy. The water is so buoyant that even with my hands by my sides, I was bobbing like a cork. After an hour, a giant inflatable was rolled out and once the 7y old’s swimming had been checked, both were allowed to jump onto the inflatable obstacle. There seem to be a good number of life guards around. There was a constant queue at the cafe, but it all seemed like the usual fast food, so we left after two hours and had lunch at a nearby cafe. The changing rooms are clean and there are ample storage lockers.I cannot rate this place highly enough and I will definitely be back next year when it reopens.

I am embarrassed to admit in 24 years I've never been here before now. What an amazing place!

Kids (aged 10 & 6) loved it! The shallow end was just perfect for my youngest & he was happy swimming away with his arm bands on. Lots of floats kicking about. Oldest had a go on the slide which I didn't think she would.

Lots of families obviously not an amateur like me as they'd rocked up with coolers etc to stay & play for a longer period. Lady who does the Aqua Zumba was brilliant & the kids joined in at one point. Where she gets her energy from I don't know!

Went to the cafe after our swim - lovely place with friendly staff. The salad with the soup was amazing! Wish I'd taken a picture now as the portion filled me without the soup! Kids happy with the choices and the variety of milkshake flavours obviously! Highly recommend!

Visited the pool recently with my wife and boys. First time for my boys and they loved the pool. The original decor of the changing rooms kept as I remembered it as a kid. Plenty of lockers available. Lots of other families were there and great weather to enjoy the pool. There is a slide at the deep end of the pool and an inflatable obstacle course for teens to try. There was also live music playing. Plenty of lifeguards on patrol to keep visitors safe.

Only negative experienced was ordering of food at the restaurant. Paid for my order of three bowls of chips at one window and waited at the other. But the staff had forgotten my order after noticing a group of girls made an order of chips and received within 10 minutes. I waited 30 minutes for my order and then approached a staff member about it. I finally got my order and got compensated with an extra bowl of chips.

This negative experience won’t put me off from visiting the pool again but I won’t be buying food from the restaurant.

What a fantastic swimming pool. Visited with a group of 12 young people as part of a Boys Brigade camp - they all loved it! Pool was unexpectedly warm. Live music added to the atmosphere. Warm welcome received from one of the “friends” of the pool. Highly recommended for anyone in the area.

Overcast and dull, the pool was anything but,

A clean and (I imagine) nostalgic trip, music piped through the tannoy, attentive and caring lifeguards and a slide that’s is way bigger than you expect (you’re even encouraged to go down headfirst!)

We had a great time, goggles a good tip from the reviews below, my eyes will burn for days but then they would in the sea as well!

If you go over the inflatable then don’t hold onto the middle, that’s definitely cheating!

Furthest north open air pool in the country - water heated to very comfortable degree. Affordable even just to sit poolside in the sun

Went swimming here tonight and had a great time. I'm quite a fast swimmer so chose the lane session, I'm also quite a wimp with cold water and the water was the perfect temperature. The pool is very beautiful, the water is very blue and the colour scheme makes it look sunny even when it isn't. The changing rooms are great too, it reminds me of the open air pools on the continent open during the summer which every small town seem to have. Far more enjoyable than swimming in a 25m indoor pool. The salt water is also very good for your general health.

I’ve been going to the pool for over 40yrs now and love it, used to go as a kid and now take my own kids. Great for the family or getting some serious lengths in.
Love that you pay for a day ticket and not just a couple of hours.
Cafe is great and you can’t beat sitting in the sun eating chips and cheese after a swim.
Facility is clean and so well looked after, staff are friendly and polite.
A great place to spend time swimming, having fun and relaxing.

A fantastic outdoor pool swimming pool by the sea
Our local outdoor pool was closed the same time this one was saved, so missed swimming in a salty seawater outdoor pool in the summer.

Heading for a family holiday in the Morayshire, So it was good excuse to stop off for a dook in Stonehaven outdoor pool.

It’s not lost any of the character of a traditional 1930s pool. Clearly loved by the locals who help maintain it to a high standard.

We arrived on a hot sunny day. We didn’t have to wait too long in the queue.
The old fashioned turnstiles were still in use, just adds to the character. Staff at the desk was very polite.

Changing room were clean as were the toilets.

So ventured out onto the poolside
In we went, expecting it to be cold (but it was hot, over 80f), First thing was that salty sea water taste something that you don’t get in an regular indoor pool and the odd deid flea (an outdoor pool thing), great memories.

Tthere was an inflatable up for the kids (with a few big kids on it), which was well supervised.

I just enjoyed swimming at the deeper part of the pool, along with a trip down the slide (the big kid coming out in me). Staid about an hour, before having to leave.
Showers were hot.

Didn’t have time to use the café, which seemed to doing a roaring trade. It seemed to have a bit for order food and another for quick service?

The activities (lane swimming, inflatables etc) are all advertised, so if you want lane swimming etc check out the times.

Will definitely be back, maybe staying a bit closer to Stonehaven next time to enjoy a midnight swim.
