Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Done twice ,a truly memorable experience with the climb in near darkness along the 100 plus steps and thee vista from above takes the breath away. This old sentinel from two centuries back still keep the rare traveler spellbound.

Really enjoyed the view but it's a long climb for the fairly fit! Dark, and no handrail, but worth the effort if you can.

This tower is historical monument of captain Dowson who made colombo - Kandy road. If you visit there you can see old instruments they used to made this colombo- Kandy main road. Now a days no maintenance of this place. But big historical value and you can see old vehicles also used to made the Colombo- Kandy main road.
This is located just beside Colombo- Kandy main road. You can easily visit there while going to Kandy.
This dowson tower is one of the landmark to understand we came to Kadugannawa city. If you go to this place there is a railway museum also just near Kadugannawa railway station. Just few distance from Dowson tower. So dont forget to visit both the places.

Dawson Tower has a statue of William Dawson the architect of the adjacent tunnel completed during colonial times. A small detour is required from the main road.

Nice Historical place on the road to Kandy from Colombo. But unless your driver or guide is aware of it you will miss it, as you have to take a small detour from the highway. This tunnel was started in 1828 and completed in 1830, when the road to Kandy was being built. Adjacent to this tunnel is a small tower with the statue of William Francis Dawson, who was the architect of this tunnel and the road. This place has a lot of Historical importance, worthwhile visiting.
