About

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very modern and informative museum display covering all aspects of volcanoes on Réunion. It’s a pity that information and titles are only in French and that we were forced to get audio help at extra cost to get any real value. Tourism should be accessible by more than one language group. Non of the staff could help in any other language. A Long trip but worthwhile for the information gained.

Very interesting museum that with many attractions explain the history of the Island with its Volcanoes, shedding light on volcanology. There is also a baby area, however the babies will be interested the same. Definitely worthy.

I found this exhibition interesting although it would be a lot better if they catered more for English speaking tourists. How difficult is it to display two languages.
The 180 degree cinema was interesting and well done showing the formation of the universe, a 15 minute film worth seeing. As I was from NZ and White Island erupted a couple of days ago killing at least 13 tourists in the crater and seriously injuring many more, I was thinking of home on the other side of the world. It would be good if they could include something on our volcanic history as we also sit on the edge of two tectonic plates.

You are being searched for knifes and other weapons on entrance. That is good and safe. The exhibition in 100% French and a good 33% was also tranlated into English. What we did understand was interesting and the 4D movie was in English (last show og the day, BUT it was there and in English!). The facillities are pretty new and well kept.

Modern and nicely done. Very informative, good explanations. We learned a lot. The 4D cinema is fun, very good for kids. The all museum is big and easy to walk around. The staff was really nice and helpful.

Of course if you do not know anything about volcanos, visiting this before heading to the Piton de la Fournaise is a must.

But even if you know a lot about volcanos and geology, the exposition provides a lot of information about the way two volcanos formed the Reunion Island and provide some cool insights about "Le Volcan".

In short, don't skip it.

You will learn about not only volcano but other topics as well such as the creation of Reunion Island, how the vegetation will grow after an eruption, the monitoring of the volcano with the graphs of its activity over the years and more.
The 4D film is entertaining but I will recommend to go with children as it's a little bit boring for adults only.
Overall, it's a great attraction to do as a family.

it provides interesting information about volcanos in general and those in Reunion. Unfortunately there is very little in English making it less accessible for most foreign tourists.

Visited with 3 grandchildren, ages 4-8, and kept them entertained for a couple of hours, make sure you visit the 4D experience. Detailed descriptions and explanations of volcanoes and how Reunion was formed, ideal for older children and adults, less so for the 4 & 5 year olds but good to spend some time explaining things to them and letting them explore at their pace. Well recommended.
