Ukraine is a very diverse country and this museum is a good proof for this. Probably one of the best ethnographic museums in the country. Even if you are not interested in such kind of activities I think you will find visit to this museum as time well spent. I would especially recommend it if planning some additional activities in the Ukrainian Carpathians (hiking, biking etc.) - due to this museum you will be able to understand the area better. What amazes me is the fact that most of the stuff presented here can be found in everyday life in nowadays Carpathians.
Exhibition is very well organized - divided into sections: musical instruments, utensils, wood carving, clothing, ceramics, metalwork etc. In most of the rooms you will find information about items presented there and this information is in ENGLISH, however it is recommended to find a professional guide (ask at the museum reception or at the hotel you are staying) - that will make your experience just better.
ATTENTION!!! They would charge you 50 UAH extra if you want to use your camera inside of the museum - on my opinion that is too much and also most of the items are hidden behind glass windows which reflects and it will be just very difficult to get pictures of a descent quality. At the reception they sell booklets about the museum - pretty good printing quality with professional photographs, English text and that will cost you 30 UAH only.

Beautifully preserved and presented hand made artifacts by this interesting ethnic group. The delicate wood carvings, embroidery, weaving, knitting and metal work is world class. There are general English explanations and you can figure out for yourself most of the things. The Museum itself is a bit old and not properly renovated but it is definitely an hour well spent. We left elated.

I visited Kolomyya's Hutsul Museum on an organized tour of the Carpathians recently. It's a great museum to learn about local history and culture in the Hutsulshchyna area. Be advised that an English language guide will be very useful if you aren't able to speak Ukrainian.
The museum showcases regional history dating back to the earliest periods. Primitive art and artifacts displayed along with more recent pieces. I liked the examples of local dress that were on display as well as local religious art and icons.
The building in which the museum is located is very interesting and pretty also. I enjoyed taking in its architecture and accents alongside the exhibits. The stained glass pieces in the stairway were really pretty.
Since I'm a bit of a history and anthropology buff, I'd recommend budgeting 1-2 hours at the Hutsul Museum. If you're in the area, I would highly recommend you visit!

Hutsul - it's a type of people from the carpathian mountains. They dress up in ancient national outfit and have Trembita (longest wooden alpine horn). So you can discover everything about their lifestyle in the past and what they do nowadays.

We tour this museum with an Interceptor. The signs were in Ukraine only. It had a great detail of artifacts. You had to pay extra to take pictures.

I love all things Hutsul, especially cultural things like clothes and history! One of the teachers I work with took me and I fell in LOVE!
