I really enjoyed our visit to Asbyrgi. There is a great visitor center that will provide information and maps about the area. The canyon walls were so steep and high. The trails at the end of the canyon lead to a pond with rocks, small...More

We meant to do trail A2 but got confused and ended up on A3 before turning around. Accidentally going down A3 was actually ok though because the views were still nice. It was a flat, easy walk, with a canyon wall to the left. Pleasant...More

Asbyrgi would be considered 'tame' for Iceland, and has a number of easy dirt hiking trails and picnic areas. While not as dramatic as other areas of Iceland, it does include some nice vegetation and trees and is particularly beautiful in the fall. Parking: Large...More

I was a bit disappointed because seeing pictures of the green and blue river curving around the rocks like a horseshoe, I was determined to find the best shot, we drove back and forth many times and wondered whether we were in the wrong place...More

Drove there and the road was covered with thick snow and don't want to take the risk of having my car stuck. So got to make a U turn and took photo from afar.

Parked our camper van here for the night, the campsite facilities were large and clean. Do the Elyjan ("island") hike - not too difficult, and you can walk to the end of the peninsula and look out over the canyon. An especially great view from...More
