One can find many pictures of Ōgakijō as it was originally built by Ichiyanagi Naosue under instructions from Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1588. Unfortunately, the original wooden structure, known for its four tiers of thickly plastered white walls, was destroyed by Allied aerial bombardment in 1945. Today a concrete reconstruction dating to 1959 stands in its place. I got an English... More

The castle is 7 mins walk from the JR station. you will enter from the East Gate, but the view and scenery is much better in the West Gate. The entrance fee is a GOOD bargain, 100(castle only) and 150(castle & museum), don't hesitate to pay the extra 50 for the museum, there are excellent miniture of the castle and... More

We then went onto Nagahama Castle, returning to Maibara to change trains again for Ogaki. Just outside Ogaki railway station there is the tourist information centre where a lovely lady who spoke perfect English advised us of the attractions... More

During Cherry Blossom Season, visiting is free. It has historical data of the battle fought at and around this castle. They have a replica model of the battle as well as armor and weapons used.

Ogaki Castl was designated as a National Treasure in 1936. The present one is a reconstruction of the original which was destroyed during the Second World War. It is quite small but is of interest due to it's importance during the battle of Sekigahara.
