at the mouth of the Mira River where it meets the ocean. Fine, white sand and a demarked swimming area. Need to be mindful of tides and river current (quite fun to walk upriver then drift float downstream). While there were dressing rooms on the beach, not sure if there were public toilet and shower facilities.

The Franquia beach at the river Mira is a long and nice stretch where you can both swim and rent kayaks and SUPs. The water is rather cold and the current quite strong, however the swimming areas are marked to allow for safe swimming. We had a great time and the grandkids especially enjoyed challenging the tide building walls in the sand.

But be careful with the stream - it's much more powerful than what you think, so respect the barriers on the beach. Also nice is the promenade along the beach.

Do NOT eat here 🤢🤮. Ok for overpriced drinks & lazy service. Yes, the view is gorgeous. They only do small plates, so should have been ok. We were served the worst shrimp tacos of our lives. The kitchen breaded a shrimp that still had the shell on (heavy, industrial breading). Because the shell was still on, the shrimp guts were not removed. The customer seated behind us also left half his bowl of Portuguese soup on the table & left without lingering over the view.

Very quiet beach with calm water sorry that it is so cold, advice for families with small children, because the water is quiet and safe.

Near Vila Nova de Milfontes, the beach is very busy in high season. We reached it during a trek at the end of May and were therefore able to admire it in all its tranquility and beauty.
