As part of my private tour for a day, we drove to the rim of this awesome lake for the views and a bite of lunch. Our outside table over-looked the lake and it was indeed a beautifully peaceful sight. The little restaurant also had...More
Very beautiful area. Lake is in a volcanic crater with a small island on it. You can take boat tours. There are restaurants on the rim looking down as well as restaurants at water level. Water is very clear. Lots of houses to rent and...More
Stopped by here for a view of the beautiful lake on our way to Santa Ana. There are lots of places to eat along the lake giving you lovely views while you dine. If not interested, at least stop for a picture and admire the...More
It is a beautiful lake located in a crater. Has spectacular views from the surrounding mountains. There are plenty of restaurants on the top and few are on the shore, although the road to the shore is pretty bad.
Lovely lake in Coatepeque. There are few restaurants along the shore so you can eat some nice food while watching the beautiful scenery of the lake. It only takes less than 1 hour from san salvador. Prepare swimsuit if you want to dive in.
A great day trip from anywhere in El Slavador. We drove from Santa Ana by recommendation of a local in the town. What a beautiful surprise it was; we sat at the lookout for hours before going to the lake. Mostly locals and very amable....More
Beautiful view, great people, food, and fun. The only bad part is the access. You need a vehicle 4x4, preferably.
Local government needs to invest on better roads.
Cheap but great entertainment, you can tour the lake in a covered boat for 8 people for...More

The whole thing lasted about eight hours and I highly recommend this company. I had Mario Jr. for a guide and he is great. It's not cheap, I don't recall the exact price but it was well over $100, but that included the entrance fee to the National Park and the boat ride on the lake. Also, when I went there was only I and one other fellow on the tour, so it was basically a personal tour, not a big group of tourists.
Anyways, whichever way you choose I'm sure you will love it. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I'd recommend renting a house online. Most of the properties are private houses. There are 2 Turicentros "tourist centers" but the only hotel is Torremolinos, and its not very well maintained, check out the reviews here on... More
I'd recommend renting a house online. Most of the properties are private houses. There are 2 Turicentros "tourist centers" but the only hotel is Torremolinos, and its not very well maintained, check out the reviews here on Tripadvisor. There is one hostel but I don't know anything about it. Hope that helps.
