We booked the ultimate package with park entry, private mud and sulphur spa and and hour's massage. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the massage itself very enjoyable. However the facilities are very tired and in great need of updating, particularly the changing areas. The ladies section had no door on the changing cubicle and, despite there being a... More

Visited mainly to experience the mud baths. Pros: The walk through the park was great, really enjoyed seeing the different pools. We happened upon the wood carving area and took the opportunity to make a small carving - this was an unexpected highlight and we now have a great souvenir for the trip! I also think the sulphur baths made... More

We booked this in advance to relax at the end of a busy day of sightseeing & we really enjoyed this. The mud bath was first, cover yourself in mud, let it dry & then wash it off again, 20 minutes in the mud bath. Then into the sulphur pools for as long as you like, one tepid, the other... More

We enjoyed Hells gate and the tour was v informative, Great that it is owned by Maori people, sacred land there as it was the place where Maori warriors bathed themselves after battle in the falls there. Amazing to see such hot boiling geothermal activity once you get used to smell. Then we enjoyed the mud bath but please take... More

The guided tour is very informative. It's a small but full of activity thermal park. The spa mud pool and sulphur pools are nice but better to do on a non hot day. Avoid the private spa pools because they are small and claustrophobic and more expensive !

Hell’s Gate is the only Maori owned geothermal park in New Zealand. The English name came from the playwright George Bernard Shaw who visited in the early nineteen hundreds. He said that he was sure this must be the gateway to hell that his colleagues said he would pass through as long as he remained an atheist. The Maori kept... More

We visited the Springs recently and enjoyed it very much. We joined a guided tour which was good, the guide gave us more information than we would have found out for ourselves, which included experiencing the use of bentonite on our hands which was fun. It also included having a go at some wood carving with help at the end... More

This is a must when visiting NZ!! We were here for around 4 hours, we purchased a package which included thermal walk, sulphur pool, mud bath and massage. It costed $330 for both us which seems expensive but it was worth it for what we received. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had Kelly as our tour guide... More

Such a great spot to see and understand the geothermal side of Rotorua. There is a small fee to enter the park and make sure you have sensible footwear to walk around. There are spa packaging available to soak also however I did not choose this option. There is times of the day where you can be taken around by... More

The staff here are so lovely and helpful. I booked for the wrong day but they still accepted me into that time slot. The spa attendant took photos for me and my friends while we were covered in the amazing mud. The mud pools are amazing. You spend 20minutes lathering on the mud and letting it dry. When you wash...
