Ancient structures with the footprint of several structures that are no more. Take time to read about Karakorum, the actual city is no more. This was a monastery. It's amazing any of it survived the Cultural Revolution.

Karakorum was the capital in times of Mongolian Imperial. The son of Gengis Khan settled the capital here. Today you can visit a small place of the ruins, close to the monastery. You can read more about our experience around Mongolia travelling by our own.

The model of the city as it used to be was interesting and is useful to see before exploring what is left, however the rest of the museum is less so,we felt it was a little overpriced in comparison to the visit to the temple complex.

Lovely small town with friendly helpful people. The monastery is magnificent, a stunning piece of work. Nothing left from the great city itself but a turtle rock.

Good museum on top of an excavation. The maquette of the city may be a bit exaggerated. The English translations are funny. The visuals on the rise of the Mongolian empire are great. Must see!

The museum is good, although the maquette of the old city may be a bit exaggerated. The translations into English are funny. The old townhall aka old/destroyed monastery is a bit of a bummer, not much to be seen. No need for a tourguide. The...More

Beautiful, interesting and cultural. Very interesting place to visit, I would definitely recommend having a guide to learn the most as most of it has been ruined. The walled monastery is interesting and you can just imagine when it was once powerful and big. A...More
