Fantastic view to the Moselvalley. Enjoy the tour round the castle, study the way within the two connected castles, study the special garden called "Steingarten". very impressed by the exhibition of the former craftsman in the vineyard "Winzer" with the procedure of making Mosel vine. Interesting pictures from knights. Thank you for hospitality.

Wonderfully preserved castle that offers not only magnificent views down on the town of Alken next to the river, but it also provides a picture on the early history of this part of the world. Reachable by foot through the vinyards or by car, this is well worth a visit. Stop for tea or a glass of wine on one... More

Nice walk uphill through the vinyards. Upon entering the castle we bought two glasses of white wine and sat down at a table near the castle wall overlooking the Mosel valley. What more can you ask for? Afterwards there are many beautiful spots to explore at the castle, incl. a climb up the tower with even more magnificent views.

I found this castle by accident - searching TripAdvisor. I am fortunate - I live in-country, and this was about an hour and 15 minutes from me. I had no idea - nor did any of my coworkers - this castle was this good and this close to me. The winding road approaching the castle is beautiful - car and... More

Self guided tour of Burg Thurant is well worth your time and money. Beautiful gardens, great views of the Mosel all very reasonably priced.

Stumbled on to this gem by accident - but what a great find! This beautiful castle had gorgeous gardens and interesting features I'd never seen before in a castle. The entry fee was minimal and it was not overrun by tourists. We just loved it!

Early evening before dinner we hiked up to this castle from the town. It was a pleasant walk and we were delighted to explore the grounds. Having later visited Eltz castle, I really appreciated the lack of excessive tourism at Burg Thurant. There was only one other group when we went and it felt much more authentic to look around... The castle is 800+-year old and gives off that nostalgic feel. Above all, it affords every visitor a beautiful, panoramic view of the Mosel River. It was comforting to be up here and see awesome views of the German countryside and all the vineyards on the hills above the river. I just wish this place had an attractive German restaurant... We loved this castle because after paying to get in, you can explore on your own. There are parts that aren't so much of a ruin, but it was still nice to roam the castle and look out over the Rhine River.

We stopped here on the way to the famous Burg Eltz. We didn't know about this castle until we saw the signs along the road, but I'm so glad that we decided to stop! The castle is very well preserved, and has so many things to offer; views, garden, architecture and even some humorous photo opportunities! The staff was very... More
