I came here via public bus- and a loooong walk- from Tiraspol. The signage is pretty poor. When I arrived, there were no more English guides available. Technically only rubles are accepted but the young lady there was kind enough to give me change for some Romanian lei as I had a limited supply of rubles. The fort's grounds are... More

Amasign sights of Fortress and river Dnestr. We've been with friends, took a guide! I learn a lot of new historical facts about Moldovian history and Russian-Turkish war. :) They accept transnistrian rubles, but if you show them dollars, or euro, I think they will take them, but you will pay a little more, no problem!)

It is actually worth stopping when driving from Chisinau to Tirasopol, you can spend a bit of time wandering around the fort. If you are not scared of heights you can clumb the tower for some amazing views

Built in the 1500s, this is a perfect example of turkish medieval style architecture. You'll need to travel to Transnistia to see this, as Bendery is in Transnistria. You don't need a guide, but its beneficial as there is not much information available on site. There is a small museum with medieval torture devices, and a small museum with displays... More

No point in going to Tighina without going to the fort. You would need a guide to call ahead a day or so. Just because you get to the town doesn't mean you get in. You need a car to get there

I visited the Bendery Fort on my way back to Chisinau from Tiraspol. The fort has been recently renovated with a nice museum, medieval torture chamber and ramparts that give great views of the Dniester and it's bridge. Don't be fooled by the grim approach through industrial land.. it's worth it in the end.

We stopped here for an hour or so on our to Tirasopol from Chisinau, the fort has been well restored with nice little museum and torture chamber!! Climb the tower for great views over the surrounding area including an old disused ? Soviet army base.

The Fortress continues to be restored by the government - with due reason, it is a very impressive tourist attraction. The Fortress - with its 8 towers covers a large area overlooking the town. It is surrounded by a moat (waterless), had mosques, Turkish baths, barracks for soldiers, etc. was built by Sulieman/Ottoman Empire in 1548, conquered by the Russians... More

This was a last minute decision to take taxi from our hotel in Tiraspol and do at least quick trip to the Bendery (Tighina) fortification. We first arrived to a wrong entrance (apparently part of the Bendery army "check point"), so we took marshrutka to the next stop. The entrance was already closed as we arrived at c. 16:45, however... This was where Charles XII of Sweden, with the remains of his defeated army and a few Cossack allies, found his last refuge, and I would very much have liked to have a closer look. But the driver said it was impossible (the fortress is now a barracks), and the best I could do was to take a photograph of... More
