great places (I think that you have at least 10 different but similar churches to see) to show how the locals were constructing their churches of wood. some are quite well preserved so select carefully which ones you want to see.

The Monastery Barsana conquers you with the amazing views, wooden churches in the transilvanian style and the peaceful atmosphere which flies around. All is build up with a very good taste, gardens, churches, flowers.... Definitely a peace of heaven on earth which should be seen at least once!

Of course the architecture is beautiful, but the landscaping with the roofs, flowers and views is stunning. I took more pictures of flowers than the monastery it self, but I could not resist. If you are in the area, please visit this monastery. It will be worthy.

We went to Maramures especially to visit the wooden churches and we warn't disappointed. Unfortunately we visited only 5 from the UNESCO World Heritage , the road was good , not bad , and for example if you wanted to visit the wooden church from Barsana , you had to go through the yard of a house, but the people... From many wooden churches in Maramures County, 8 are listed in UNESCO World Heritage. They are very beautiful, unique in the world and in some of the most pitoresque area in Europe!

Wooden churches are symbols of Maramures region. And the style of them are really adorable. Some of them are from the 17th century and preserved up to our date which is unbeliavable. Try to visit at least one:)

There are so many and guidebooks describe them all as if equal so we decided to visit them all. Some are closed. Some are closed but can be open if you are lucky and find a little old lady with keys. If you don't have time, our favorite ones are Surdesti and Desesti: beautiful paintings.
