    Sanchi Stupa complex
Peaceful and serene. The Sanchi Stupa is worth the visit. Good to take a guided tour to understand the history and significance of the place and why it is a UNESCO world heritage site. The guide will talk about the Stupa and the carvings on the toranas and about some structures nearby. But the site has many more structures, so, do explore the rest on your own.

    Must visit
An attempt by a human named Ashoka appreciating the teachings of another human named Siddharth Gautama also called as the Buddha. The stone inscriptions and the sculptures explaining the city and life at the time of Buddha. Despite being vandalized by many it was nice to see the architecture is preserved to the best of abilities.

    Breathtaking
Very convenient day trip from Bhopal. Buddhist significance apart its architecturally beautiful and scenic surroundings coupled with history make for an unmatched experience. A good guide and transport are essential. We were fortunate to have Mrs. Rekha Chopra of Radiant Travels info@radianttravelsmp.com as our guide.

Please take your own vehicle to visit the Stupa and visit during the evening time
Most of the reviews explain the importance of the Stupa and its significance hence I will not explain in detail. Instead the details provided below will benefit the travelers. First please visit the Stupa during the evening (say between 03:30 pm and 4:00 pm) with your own vehicle or take it own rent (mandatorily) for visiting & exiting out of Stupa. The entire visit will take around 2-3 hours and if feasible please take the service of a guide who will charge around Rs: 850 for 60-90 minutes. The reasons are mainly due to: 1) Evening time is pleasant and you will enjoy roaming around the Stupa. 2) There is a water fountain show [at the bottom of the Stupa and opposite the Stupa entry ticket counter window] at 6: 45 pm. Unfortunately the ticket counter opens only at 6:30 pm. If you have a vehicle then it will be easier to travel down to the witness the water fountain show. 3) Post the water fountain show there is a laser show (in both Hindi and English around 7:05 pm and 07:30 pm respectively but do reconfirm the timings) at the stupa and the tickets for the laser show are distributed only after completion of the water fountain show. It is the same ticket counter which distributes the tickets for the laser show and water fountain show but is different from the Stupa entry ticket counter. 4) If you have a vehicle then it will be easier to travel up to the Stupa to witness the laser show. Post the laser show the area becomes pitch dark and you may not be able to travel back if you do not have your own vehicle/vehicle on rent.

A UNESCO world heritage site enveloped in Buddhism .
Sanchi has since long been a Buddhist complex with the great Stupa dominating the skyline along with other smaller sized stupas. The great Stupa dome rises to about 17 metres. The Sanchi complex is also a UNESCO world heritage site. The Stupa has four gateways where intricate carvings depict Gautam Buddha's life. Sanchi is quite close to Vidisha where Samrat Ashok who turned into a Buddha follower reigned and his Mauryan empire flourished. The Sanchi stupa was made in third BC by Ashoka. There is also an Archaeological Museum there. The Tropic of Cancer passes through Sanchi and hence in the recent past another feather has been added to Sanchi's cap - it has been made a Solar City. The complex is well maintained by ASI with filtered cold water machines installed at a no, of places to quench the tourists' thirst. Green lawns all around are a treat for the eyes and as the complex is on a hill one can also see the scenery of green fields and town from a height there. Washrooms both for Gents and Ladies are there and of course there is an entry fee for entering the complex. The Stupas hold Historical and Architectural significance and Sanchi complex is a popular Picnic spot too. September to March are the best months for visiting it. In December Japanese visit the place along with visitors from other countries too.

Do's
1. Take a guide to get a tour of the Stupas; its the best utilisation of your time and also money; they have so many beautiful stories to tell, which you will miss if you just visit the place because not all information is mentioned at the site
2. Visit the light and sound show at 7 pm for Hindi and 7.50 pm for English; you can book the tickets directly from the site
3. Walk to the site and take the stairway; it's a beautiful 10 mins walk with many trees covering the stairway
4. Stay at MPT(MP tourism) in Sanchi, beautiful site again.
5. If you are travelling from Bhopal, do wait in the tropic of Cancer line for a photo
6. Don't forget to take a picture of the 20 INR note image at Sanchi

The stupas at Sanchi are well worth a visit. They are fascinating. Our guide gave us lots of information which helped us a great deal to get the maximum experience.
You should invest in a guide and take your time, allowing yourself to soak up the tranquillity of an area imbued with so much religious significance.
The carvings showing the two wives pulling their one husband in different directions is a delight, as is the panel clearly showing the Greeks with their curly hair and boots.

Hello People.

The famous Sanchi Stupa is a Buddhist complex, famous for its Great Stupa, on a hilltop at Sanchi Town in Raisen District of tMadhya Pradesh, India. It is located around 50 kilometres from capital city Bhopa towards Vidisha. The Great Stupa at Sanchi is one of the oldest stone structures in India, and an important monument of Indian Architecture. The best thing I like here is the location. So serene, the place is surrounded by green cover forest and farmlands.

The numerous stupas, temples, monasteries and an Ashokan pillar have been the focus of interest and awe for global audiences as well. In fact, UNESCO has given the status of 'World Heritage Site' to the Mahastupa. You will never regret a trip to this place.

A visit to Sanchi will bring alive the awe you felt as a child as you listened to the tales of Ashoka.

The Sanchi Stupa is part of the collection of Buddhist monuments at Sanchi.
It is a beautiful monument built by Emperor Ashoka and contains bone fragments of Lord Buddha. The gate appears in the ₹200/- note. The gates are real piece of art and the engravings show the life of Buddha.
It can get hot here so visit earlier in the morning or after 3.
Guide is a must.

Sanchi stupas are a world heritage sites and are beautiful so are Udaigiri caves . Sanchi is famous but few people are aware of Udaigiri . I think it needs to be brought into limelight so that our next generation takes more interest in our country's rich heritage . Bhimbhedka is quite nice and well maintained . But all unfortunately these places lack good public facilities like clean washrooms .
Also I would like to bring to everyone s notice that be very careful while booking a cab to visit these nearby places from Bhopal . We didn't have a very good experience with sawari . com Bhopal . We had booked cabs through them for two days to visit all these nearby places . First day was good but the second day it was total chaos . Firstly they didn't send the cab in the morning then finally when it arrived the driver didn't have any idea about the booking . He kept asking for money even though fifty percent of the payment was already done in advance .He inflated the meter reading . Sawari.com did nothing about this harrasment from the side of their vendor . Our entire journey was spoilt and finally we had to leave the cab half day itself .

Sanchi is famous for its Stupas. Sanchi is small village, there is ample free parking space near to entrance. Visit early to avoid crowd. The site is very well maintained. There is serenity in this area, you will find peace of mind.

The detailed information of Stupas can be checked on Wikipedia and Google, hence guide is not necessary at this location. One can visit Budhha Vihar which is a big temple near parking.

One can have tea and pattice near parking lot where they have created a small garden with lot of rabbits inside.

This was my 3rd visit to this historical monument. This time I took my daughter's family who visited India from Singapore. Even though in June the heat was terrible, still we could enjoy the site and magnanimity of this Buddha stupa (temple), which was ruined and remained abandoned after Buddhism sunk very low in India around the 12th century, and only to be discovered by British Mr Henry Taylor only in 1918.
However, the archaeology department must make arrangements for tourists who visit it in the peak summer months.
