I didn't enjoy the Dorze village as much as others who gave a review on this site. The view from the Dorze Lodge was very nice. The Dorze women were very kind and friendly. I felt that the dancing children on the road on the way up and down the mountain were dancing for tourists' money and nothing else, it seemed sad to me. I also felt that money was the main concern of the the people who run the village. I didn't feel love or warmth from them. I felt like they were only interested in tourists for their money. Maybe you will have a better experience than I did.

The day trip to dorze village with Tarik +251 92 561 6961 was a lot of fun. I wanted to use public transport but because it didn't fit my schedule Tarik quickly organized a motorcycle to go to the village. The ride was already part of the adventure. I was impressed by the buildings and beautiful scarfs the Dorze weave. To end our trip we even had time to visit the dorsso waterfall.

The Dorze village has really found a good view to make a respectful and nice experience for Tourists to their communicy. You have a local guide (mandatory) who show you around to explain how the society works. You are shown the local practicises and how they make e.g. kotcho (fermented bread made of false banana). Then you end brough to have a sit down and tasting of kotche (with honey and chili - delicious) and of the local hard licquor. You have the possibility to buy some handicraft - but noone will haggle you. It is all togehter very interesting a very pleasant experience

we are six friends from four Austria two Denmark. We rent only car and driver. lungo suggests in each tourist destination like where to sleep, what to see and do. During our arrival we explore by ourselves and more by our driver assistance.
You have no idea how much we appreciated the work you did, setting up our group tour to the southern Ethiopia. All the hotels medium class and guides that you selected for our single trip were perfectly located within walking distances from every town’s city center. The country incredible, the local guides were all friendly, knowledgeable and the dinner was very romantic and perfect. The driver AHEMED was friendly and courteous, allowing us time to explore the sites for ourselves. Local tour www.localtourethiopia.com

Set in an altitude of 2300-2500m, the small town has misty weather, moist climate and be reached through scenic hilly road. I took the bus to Chencha and dropped in Dorze (which is 8km before), around 1 hour. There are more buses on market day, and more interesting to visit (Chencha: Tue and Sat; Dorze: Mon and Thur).
I read that there are good tours provided from Mekonnen Lodge in Dorze Hayzo. However when I got off from the bus, it was quite hassle, as around ten guys approached and asked me to go with them, and asked pay the ticket in the office of the town first. I refused and one guy showed me the Mek lodge, but then i realized he also just lying and tried to convinced to go with him. I had to go back and went on motobike with one guy promised to bring me to Mek logde. Finally, he took me to Dorze lodge where he worked for. Felt so frustrated, even the view from Dorze lodge is worth to visit. i told him that if he provides me good service i would happy, but definitely not in this way, he just is destroying his land and people. I saw him quite embarrassing and want to go with local guy like him. So i gave him another chance.
Apart from the annoying things from beginning, i am really happy with the trip, and paid him 200 birr for about 3 hour. He took me by his bike to visit a homestead (at junction of Dorze lodge) with beautiful elephant alike style, and experience making Kocha, honey wine, and enjoyed eating, drinking with them and the neighbors (paid the host 100). Then we visited a Weaver Cooperative, a bit up to the mountain. Then it is worth to go up further 1 km from center of town (on the direction to Chencha) to see the tranquil landscape of those traditional houses.
He also can offer trekking trip, or visit waterfall...

Our trip to Omo Valley was full of experiences that we want to share so that people avoid falling into the same pitfalls as many tourist do, including us.
The 1st tier state buses from Addis to Arba Minch are highly recommended over the more expensive options like Selam bus because you get a more Ethiopian experience. The drivers play Ethiopian music through the speakers throughout the trip and there is no air conditioner that gets you freezing. Of all the options we tried this was the most enjoyable.
On our first day to Arba Minch we organised a trip to a Dorze village on the mountains, not far from the city, through our hotel Forty Springs, which included a tuktuk ride up to the village and a guide once we were there. We were lucky to meet Sekondo, a guide who was clearly passionate about his job and eager to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for us. He took us to a local hut where we were shown the process of Kocho (False Banana Bread) being made. We even got to try it ourselves inside the hut with a cup of coffee together with the family living there. Sekondo then took us to the local market and the local Tej (honey wine) house where we were lucky to experience a meeting between the village elders over an issue being fiercely discussed. It truly was an experience. Slightly tipsy and with a jolly mood we left the Dorze village happy to have met Sekondo. We highly recommend him and should you want to get in touch with him his number is 0916277350.

We went on the trip ($120 + 400 birr) the drive is nice, but it has to said, the trip was a bit of a tourist trap. No so bad if you like to buy silly souvenirs at silly prices, but if you don't want that, it does gets a bit annoying. In the end it was fine, but it should be said that there is a bit of culture and a whole lot of stuff buying.

thank you and i want to know the number of villages in dorze, population number there.
Written 9 March 2018
I’m not sure if I have all the answers to your questions but I do know that the Dorze have villages mainly around Chencha and some around Arba Minch. They number in the the thousands but many have adapted to a more modern way of life, leaving the traditional woven beehive houses..
Hope that this helps.
