RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre sits amidst the stunning Caledonian pineforest, just a short walk from the shores of beautiful Loch Garten. The centre is open every day from April 1 to the first weekend in September, though the rest of the reserve is open all year round. It opens at 10am till 6.00pm, and last entry is at 5.00pm. There is a viewing area in the centre, with binoculars and telescopes to view the ospreys and other wildlife, plus live hi-definition CCTV pictures to give really good close up views of the birds on the nest. Red squirrels can often be seen on our feeders and a large array of small birds visit too. There are always knowledgeable and friendly staff and volunteers on hand to help you make the most of your visit and presentations on the previous year's osprey season are also given. There are activities and games for children both in the centre and on the walk up from the car park. The Osprey Centre shop stocks binoculars and telescopes, gifts, toys, cards, hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. There are picnic benches and garden benches outside if the weather allows! Two beautiful woodland walks take you through magnificent pine forest to tranquil Loch Garten and Loch Mallachie - one accessed from the Osprey Centre car park and the other from the nearby Loch Mallachie car park.

Sadly, we arrived days after Dad had deserted and the chicks died. Mum was around but clearly looking to find her absentee mate. Only visible for fleeting, distant moments. Nevertheless, the enthusiastic staff made our visit worthwhile. Better luck next year!

Thanks Peter, for coming to see us at the centre and for reviewing your visit. It's a shame that you visited at such an unhappy time for the ospreys, but like you say, there's always next year!

Holidaying in the area and so booked the guided walk. The RSPB Community Ranger Alison was exceptional, brilliant, knowledgeable and had great people skills. She brought the forest alive for us and although it's never guaranteed we saw plenty of birds including the crested tit,...More

Bless you! Thank you so much for your review of Alison's Caledonian Forest walk. We're delighted you enjoyed yourselves and saw so much wildlife. We'll certainly consider your price recommendation ;-) And yes, Alsion is FAB!

Considering how many times the experts must explain to visitors about the ospreys, they still manage to sound enthusiastic. Binoculars and telescopes are provided to help you see the magnificent birds yourself, and there are various close circuit TVs which give you close ups of...More

I've been visiting loch garten for 45 years! Always amazed to see the enthusiasm of the RSPB staff. Fortunately I visited just before the chicks died as the male osprey disappeared just as they had hatched. This must have been so hard for the staff...More

Hi Stewart, thank you so much for reviewing your visit to the Osprey Centre and for your support during what has been a very difficult time for the team here. It really helps, knowing that there are lots of folk who understand the decision we...More

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit and we're sorry you found it disappointing. Unfortunately we can't do anything about the height of the osprey nest - ospreys usually nest at the top of tall trees with a good commanding view over...More

Hi Esther, no need for you to be RSPB members to visit, no. It's £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and the car park is free. We look forward to seeing you then.
