RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre sits amidst the stunning Caledonian pineforest, just a short walk from the shores of beautiful Loch Garten. The centre is open every day from April 1 to the first weekend in September, though the rest of the reserve is open all year round. It opens at 10am till 6.00pm, and last entry is at 5.00pm. There is a viewing area in the centre, with binoculars and telescopes to view the ospreys and other wildlife, plus live hi-definition CCTV pictures to give really good close up views of the birds on the nest. Red squirrels can often be seen on our feeders and a large array of small birds visit too. There are always knowledgeable and friendly staff and volunteers on hand to help you make the most of your visit and presentations on the previous year's osprey season are also given. There are activities and games for children both in the centre and on the walk up from the car park. The Osprey Centre shop stocks binoculars and telescopes, gifts, toys, cards, hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. There are picnic benches and garden benches outside if the weather allows! Two beautiful woodland walks take you through magnificent pine forest to tranquil Loch Garten and Loch Mallachie - one accessed from the Osprey Centre car park and the other from the nearby Loch Mallachie car park.

Visited here today and went for a dander. Unfortunately didn't see the osprey but lots of other birds to see. Boards displayed what had been spotted that day, including lots of other wildlife like red squirrels and woodmice. I liked that there were lots of...More

I have gave the four star rating for the walks along the beautiful loch and for the informative worker in the centre. I was however sad to hear that the male osprey had disappeared and the three chicks had died but the female was still...More

Sadly the chicks had died after the male had disappeared. The female is still at the nest and being visited by other male Ospreys in the area. Wonderful to see such a magnificent bird even from quite a distance away. There are camera screens in...More

Beautiful Loch Garten, and Close by Loch Mallachie. Visit the RSPB visitor centre to hopefully get a glimpse of the the Ospreys, and in spring the chicks. Plus lots of other birds and wildlife.

Visited at a time that there were no ospreys on the nest unfortunately but really enjoyed the two loch walk from the other car park. Lots of bird life at both sites.

Great visit - knowledgable, enthusiastic staff keen to share their joy on the area. Could have stared down the telescope for hours watching the wee birds on the feeders. No osprey sighting for us :-( So will have to come back again :-)

Thanks Michelle, Loch Garten is indeed "wow!" but what a shame you didn't come to the Osprey Centre! Next time, maybe?!

The pathway to the centre is level and hard packed dirt. There is disabled parking and the telescopes on the ospreys are set at different heights. The RSPB tries very hard to accommodate people with different abilities... More

Hi Esther, no need for you to be RSPB members to visit, no. It's £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and the car park is free. We look forward to seeing you then.
