Some practical advice. Book tickets well ahead and allow plenty of time to get there. Although the Hypogeum is only a short ride from Malta the signage is dreadful and helpful locals may well give you directions to the temple complex of Tarxien instead (where,...More

Located about ten minutes outside of Valletta, the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is one of the more popular tourist attractions and definitely the most popular prehistoric site on the Maltese Islands. It consists of a number of various rock-cut chambers that span construction from 3600BC to...More

The preservation of this site requires minimal and controlled human intervention so the air quality and number of people allowed in every day is rigidly controlled. There is an on line booking system for this but the full tours are booked out usually a month...More

Only EIGHT people per hour (tour) allowed on this site. I've not got my head around the age of the Hypogeum yet but it's a Must Do in Malta. It's a bus trip from Valletta bus station. All bus journeys are one Euro 50 each...More

The Hypogeum, discovered by accident in 1902, is a fascinating and unique place now inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. But you need to book way ahead. On the advise of friends who had been there we booked from Australia six months beforehand and...More

This was our favorite part of our week long trip to Malta. I got chills when imaging the ancient people there. So well preserved!
