Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We couldn't get there due to the flood that made the road impossible for our car, but a couple with ATV made it!

A nice place to walk and get out of the sun for an hour. The small village of Maries (nearby) has a couple of restaurants in a shady square that provide a lovely place for a spot to eat. It's fun watching people arrive in the small square and watch them try to make a decision on which restaurant to use. There seems to be fierce competition between the two restaurants. There are tables and chairs for both restaurants adjacent to each other and it's almost like a tug of war at times over who will gain the business. For all I know it might all be a sham but I think it may well be a long fought out war over many years. Go and have a glass of Retzina and watch it all unfold very nice way to spend an hour on Thassos.

My wife and I visited the lake when also going to see the waterfall, which I have reviewed separately. We went to the lake with an element of excitement as the pictures looked impressive that we had seen.
On travelling through the village you join a dirt road - more ideal for off road vehicles, but with care you can get up in a normal road vehicle. Some people had parked in the village and started the walk to the lake - this is no short distance. If you do walk I would recommend plenty of water and a hat as there is not much breeze and it was very warm.
I would admit that on the drive up to the lake the scenery is very impressive with deep valleys and trees.
On arrival at the lake there is a large area to park your vehicle. The lake is to the right. We got out of the car and took a short walk to the lake. At this time there were no immediate or obvious signs for the waterfall.
On getting to the lake I was immediately disappointed. It was not what I was expecting. It firstly does not look like a natural lake as it appears to be a man made dam. The dam itself is just soil. The far end of the lake does look more impressive with the trees, but overall not what I expected.
If you want to go to the waterfall you need to walk along to the far end of the dam. As you reach the trees turn right down the slope onto a little path and you will come to the stream that leads to the waterfall.
To get to the base of the waterfall go to the right and down the track through the trees - it is not far. The waterfall is not that high and not overly impressive.
It was not possible to walk any further past the lake up the hill as it was roped off due to the high risk of fires.
In summary if I had have walked from the village to the lake I would have been even more disappointed, although the views along the way were better. If the dam had grass on or some form of vegetation it may have looked a little more natural or impressive. Perhaps I may have had a different opinion if I had not seen the pictures first.
I would say that it was nice to walk around the village on our return and we had a nice drink in the small village square.

It is accessible unfortunately only by a 4x4 or quad as it’s on a dirt track which can’t be driven by a normal rental car but we risked it anyway and took out citigo up to the lake. Upon arrival it’s just a lake with a few fish but if you follow the red arrows it’ll lead you to a waterfall, relatively small but still a nice view. If you carry on climbing you get to another one and then another one on top of that. We decided to stay there and take if our shoes and dip our toes into the water. We sat for a good 40 minutes just taking in the freshness and beautiful sounds we were hearing. We even filled up a empty bottle with the waterfall water which was surprisingly nice and refreshing and cold. My partner decided to jump in the water from getting hot from sitting under the sun for so long, I followed once he got in. The water was very cold which was expected but it was very refreshing and soothing in the hot sun. This is definitely worth a visit for hikers and those up for a walk as there are multiple waterfalls further up. We carried on walking for 20/30 minutes and decided to turn back but you could probably walk further up for a while. Those that said the waterfall is overrated don’t appreciate nature and it’s beautiful creations!! I would recommend coming in trainers and not flip flops etc as there is quite a bit of climbing and I fear flip flops and sandals might be a bit slippy, especially getting to the third waterfall in which you have to climb up a tree/rock to get to in the left hand side

High in the hills above Skala Marion is a secluded area of woods and streams and a picturesque lake.
You'll really need a 4x4 to reach it, (or face a long uphill walk in very hot conditions), but it is really worth it.
And nearby there is a really lovely woman who sells various honeys, one of which is blended with ouzo, and is absolutely gorgeous.

We stayed in Prinos, so if you go till Skala Marion and there will see the sign to turn left. Will go 20-30 minutes through olive gardens till you reach Marion village. When the asphalt ended we left the scooter at the parking and went on foot 3-4 km. We dont mind the exercise also the views are good. We've been lucky as there has been some water in the so called lake. Lake is the same place as waterfalls. Waterfall trip is nice and comfy, will do for kids and teens.

The lake it was in our ATV -route but honestly it does not worth go there just for the lake .
I think you find a lot of more attractive thing to do on Thassos , for example go to Maries , take a ride with rented ATV-S , visit Giola , go up in to the mountains until you reach the stunning Castro ...

It's nice and the road is accessible by car, but I expected something bigger... Being the only lake on the island it's worth it
