My friend and I went to Mr. Lind's house/studio, on our own, when we were in Loiza, Puerto Rico.
He just happened to be at home, and he let us in, to look around. Besides us, there was a lady and her son, also, looking around. We looked downstairs, upstairs, and everywhere.
Each room of his house, has some of his artwork: paintings, sculptures, paint, easels, etc.
Mr. Lind answered our questions. I had to interpret for my friend who does not speak/understand Spanish, since Mr. Lind doesn't speak much English.
We bought a couple of his paintings, and he signed them.
I don't know if there was another place to park, but, we parked between his house and the house next to him, moving in very close to his house. It was very narrow.
If you go, don't expect anything fancy. This is Mr. Lind's home, where he happens to do his art.
My friend and I enjoyed it, since we like art, and we are interested in the Puerto Rican culture.

Visiting Samuel Lind’s art gallery was highlight on our family vacation! It is not your typical studio. The artist walked us through and shared personal points about each piece. He also shared in depth knowledge about the history of Loiza.

Mr. Lind has lived in this area his whole life and he has built himself a breathtaking and unique home and artist's studio. If you are lucky enough to meet him you will see how genuinely kind and considerate he is, while also being an uncompromising artist determined to share his complex and rich culture with the world. His home is so fascinating. His studio and workshop and living areas all blend together. His is a collector of unique objects which are fun to spot tucked into corners and on high shelves. He sells his art (which I highly recommend purchasing, his prints are very reasonable) but clearly this is not first and foremost on his mind since we had to remind him we still needed to pay before we left! Stop by for a visit if you can. Call ahead of course but if you can't and you are just in the area just wander down his alley and see the outside if that is all you can. His home and his work will remind you that life can still be simple and beautiful and culturally rich.

My visit to Samuel Lind's studio was the highlight of my trip to Puerto Rico. It was an easy short trip from San Juan to Loiza. Mr. Lind was engaging, open, and so humble. His work is brilliant! He spent over three hours with me and my friend. We discussed the meaning behind several of his works. His ability to paint and to create in bronze shows his great talent. He does it all! His studio is a lovely cottage filled with his amazing work. He captures the life of Loiza with his silkscreens of the annual Bomba festival. He depicts the women is a variety of beautiful paintings and sculptors. He explained the lost wax process he uses to create his bronze works. It was a true educational experience. I hope to go again when I return to Puerto Rico.

Met Mr. Lind in March of this year thru a tour with our local high school. Our guide Jesus Ayala took us to see Mr. Lind's studio!! Which really was a treat. He is proficient in many mediums. Painting, sculpting, silkscreen, etc... Really enjoyable. He is a master. Do not miss this if you are a lover of art and beautiful things. I made sure to buy a print, because I was enamored with his style!! Many varied styles are shown in his home gallery. He is a very humble and talented man, kind and gracious and willing to answer questions. A real treasure of Puerto Rico!!

Carlitos of Charlie's Custom Day Tours brought me to this amazing studio. Samuel Lind's talents are breathtaking. I was spellbound from the moment I entered the studio. He was so kind and gracious to open his work to me, my daughter, and friend. His talent is beyond words. I was enchanted by his portrayals on canvas. He was very patient as we paged through his portfolios. This is a gallery that must be seen if you travel to San Juan.

There were 8 of us. We'd travelled to Loiza because we hoped to see where the Africans lived in Puerto Rico. We hoped to make some connections. Our tour guide has insisted we go to Loiza and meet the Ayala family. The Ayala family maintains the traditional culture of Africans in Puerto Rico. They were not home. So we were instead guided to Samuel Lind's art studio.
We entered this totally unassuming house style gallery and immediately felt the presence of spirit in every painting, every sculpture. Samuel, the artist was so pleased to have visitors and surprisingly humble about his work. Much of it was influenced by African traditional spirituality, but also the Catholic influences were present. There were a number of gorgeous images of the Bomba drum and dancing. He always paints the Bomba drum as a face, or root because it holds tradition, he told us. He also shared with us that he mostly paints what he sees - by that he means he sees the spirit behind a scene or experience or person.
As he walked and guided us through the different pieces, our eyes beaming with the vivid display of colours in every one of them, we became more and more emotional about what we were not simply seeing - but experiencing. It seemed odd that such magnificent work should be in this little hide away. But this made the experience even more special - that we had come to this little place to connect with Africans, who for the most part seem hidden in Puerto Rico and found this incredible outpouring of talent, inspired by the spirit of Africans.
The beautiful basques - particularly one of the lady in a blue dress, her face stretching to the light in the back of the studio, her hands perfectly poised with somekind of power we identified as ancestral took our breath away. The women in the group released their tears, the men held theirs back but we were all humbled by the experience.
We had honoured our ancestors earlier at the beach, but our meeting Samuel was their gift to us. There is so much to write about his work but I don't think this will bring it to life as much as going there and experiencing it for yourself and telling others of the marvellous energy hiding in Loiza.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit with Samuel Lind and our tour of his studio. We purchased several screen prints. They are beautifully done and will provide a wonderful memory of our trip. It is tough to find the studio. It is on a quiet street in Loiza, Puerto Rico. Most travel books include the phone number so we called and got very helpful directions from Samuel and his wife.

Mr. Samuel Lind is a great artist, an historian and a gracious host. His otherworldly ability to express deep emotions through the mediums of paint and sculpture is transforming. His images and colors will dance in your head for weeks after your visit. You will have to take a little piece of his beauty with you! Samuel Lind is a must see when visiting Puerto Rico/Loiza!
