- MadamJosephineMelbourne, Australia1,369 contributionsDo it early, be prepared for weather and know which trail you want to take.We were warned that the car park would be full by around 8.30am, so we left Cortina just after 6am, got to the carpark at 6.45am and at that time there were 120 car places left according to the sign next to the booth where you pay the 30 Euro parking fee. Best to be prepared with which trail you want to do and how long you want to walk, as there are many options. Most of the trails are not marked with the usual wooden signs, so best to take a map or have a navigational device that doesn't rely on 5G Cellular. We met a guy who went 4 kms out of his way, as he missed the turn. We did the classic Tre Cime, 10 km loop which took just under 4 hours, with a long break for coffee and cake at Langalm Chalet, which is about 2/3 of the way around the loop. Track is good in parts, but lots of rocks, loose stones and on 29th June there was still a lot of snow next to the track so muddy in places. The trail is exposed, there's a long uphill steep climb at about the 90 minute mark. Bring plenty of water & snacks and wear layers, it was 14C to start but soon warmed up to 22C. When we got back to the carpark around 10.30am there was a queue of cars waiting to get in.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2024
- Andrew BDubai, United Arab Emirates269 contributionsAmazingVERY BUSY as expected in July. We arrived just before 8am and had to wait around 30 minutes at the toll gate, €30. BUT it was so worth it. We did the easy route. 10km, which took around 4 hours with a few stops for water and snacks. There were busy parts along the way, although most of the path was fairly quiet. There are much quieter walks in the park if you don’t want to do the standard Tre Cime loop.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 July 2024
- Brt108 contributionsBeautiful but (to) busyBeautiful scenery of the drei zinnen / tre cime. The road to the top is great and the tre cime itself also. The trail is well maintained, but overcrowded. My advise is to depart as early as possible to start the hike before the crowd comes. We spend to night at the top in our RV, so we were there before the crowd. In our case we went up at 16:00h and had nu issue at all.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 September 2024

In June six years ago, I walked the esplanade where the Tre Cime di Lavaredo rise for the first time, with a difference in height of over 1000 mts between the valley floor and the Locatelli / Hinnerkofler hut, from which you can enjoy the most famous view of the Three Peaks.
On the Veneto side, as it's well known, the situation is quite different. With my group, we got on the bus to Auronzo Hut, just below the Tre Cime, by a paved toll road (30 euros for cars), formerly a path built by the Alpini troops, then paved in 1966. The 1960s are in fact the time of the cars' total hegemony; who knows if today we would dare to do what was done sixty years ago?
The result is that, as I said the Auronzo hut is right under the peaks, cars and buses park on the edge of the Dolomite scree. to over 2300 mts. Not exactly a good example of respect for the mountains.
Given the mass of visitors induced by the road, the surroundings of the Auronzo Hut in the summer season are invaded by visitors, some of whom undertake the long (4 hrs) circular trail around the Three Peaks; while most of them travel a few hundred meters or a couple of kilometers from the hut.
The beauty of the Three Peaks, but also of the other peaks that can be seen from the Auronzo hut is naturally such as to leave you breathless anyway (I am thinking for example of the group called “Cadini di Misurina”, right in front of the hut).
However, I started from here hoping to see in the future as few cases as possible of this kind, of invasion of the high mountains by motorized vehicles.

The place itself is obviously beautiful but I didn't expect such bad organization. We were hoping to get in the car but already at 7:30 the car park was full. The alternative is to go up on foot, with a 2-hour uphill walk on asphalt, or to take the bus, which however is a challenge. The route costs €10 per person (day ticket) with trips that in theory should leave every half hour; However, this does not happen and crazy queues are created under the sun. The bus can be taken either from Lake Misurina (there are fewer people and the ticket is bought on the bus) or from higher up (but there, no one knows for what reason, you have to queue for the ticket at the automatic machine, or the queue for the bus, which doesn't pass and when it arrives it's already full). The bus journey to get on, between traffic and everything else, takes half an hour.
Even for the return the written timetables are not respected, they pass when it happens based on how much traffic they encounter.
It's definitely not easy to manage the amount of people who go to these places, but it's managed really badly, so I recommend arriving really early if you decide to come here.

Honestly, arriving at 8.15am on a midweek day in July I didn't expect to find the toll road already closed due to full parking at the Auronzo refuge. So, after having made us stand in a useless queue (a panel indicating "road closed" at the crossroads with a measuring device was enough to avoid a useless traffic jam), we go back in the car, park very far away in the first free space, go back there on foot and we line up for the bus, whose ticket costs 40 euros for 2 adults and 2 children, just to help families and the environment, compared to 30 euros for access by car (it goes without saying that if you want to safeguard the environment , encourage the family and shift convenience away from the car
private to public transport we are exactly the opposite), icing on the cake: they begin to let not 3 or 4, but dozens and dozens of cars pass towards the previously blocked road. That is, people who arrived 2 hours after us, who calmly go up without any waiting, paying less than us. The employee's response to my kind question: there was an error in the parking of the Auronzo refuge in counting the spaces. Someone, as we get on the bus, tells me that this isn't the first time this has happened. I only say one thing: faced with such a high toll, given that the proceeds are enormous, the organization MUST be impeccable.
Obviously the tour of the 3 peaks is spectacular, but that's not the point.

We prepared our journey so we went as early as possible to the toll booth. We arrived at 7 a.m. and there were already 20 cars waiting. Normally the toll booth is already open at that hour but because of rain the day before there was a avalanche and we had to wait till the street was clear. In the end we had to wait 1,5 hours and the waiting line behind us was growing enormously. Toll is 30 euro and that for only a couple of miles. Still we were among the first to arrive at the parking. We immediately started our hike because later on the day there is a large chance on thunder in that area. We started our walk behind the Refugio. There is an easy broad path. You already have spectacular views but not on the tre cime yet. Our hike was around 10 kilometres with start and ending point at the parking. The Tre Cime are always in the middle and you walk around them. The first and easy part there were still quite some people that early but on the other side (the beautiful side) it was quiet. It was an astonishing walk with so many beautiful views on all sides. Along the hike we passed two other Refugios. You just have to experience this if you are in the dolomites. Path was not to hard, no steep cliffs or things like that and the signage was clear.

An indescribable spectacle, not for nothing declared a UNESCO heritage site, if you are lucky enough to visit this magnificent place at sunrise or sunset you will experience a unique emotion on a circular journey lasting around 4 hours with 4 places to rest and have lunch, be careful if you take bus 444 from Dobbiaco to Auronzo refuge, very bad experience,
I took this bus from the Dobbiaco Misurina crossroads stop to the Auronzo refuge, paying 42 euros for 3 people, convinced that the return trip was included; but at the time of return the same driver as the outbound ticket told me that the ticket was only valid for the outward journey and was therefore forced to buy another one for 42 euros for three people.
I reported the situation to sudtirolmobil who also seemed amazed and then in subsequent emails confirmed that the price paid was correct.
Returning to the heavenly place I highly recommend you visit for a unique experience

Saturday 8:00 am by bus (10 euro return) from Lake Misurina we headed towards the Auronzo Refuge. Halfway the bus encounters a queue of cars headed in the same direction, but by avoiding them we comfortably arrive at the top where at 8.30 the car parks were already full. We walked towards the Lavarone Refuge. A gentle climb without any particular roughness, it is a spectacle to admire the Three Peaks above us but also all the surrounding mountains are no different. We pass beyond the Lavaredo refuge and continue the path which climbs much more until we reach the crest which allows us to admire the Three Peaks from another angle. The Locatelli refuge is down there on the right and the path descends towards the valley for a while. go up slightly close to the refuge. Note; being Saturday it's like being in a hive of tourists, never seen so many anywhere. After some obligatory photos we continue towards Locatelli which we reach in less than an hour. Short stop is then off to the left keeping the small church on the right (Near the Ferrata there is a sign that indicates the Toblin Tower, it would take you up the Ferrata Hosp but then going down the Ferrata delle Scalette would be extremely complex and the mountain is unforgiving) to reach a poorly marked path that takes us to a cross made with barbed wire. From there, turn right following the path that goes up towards the Toblin Tower. Once we reach the top of the Forcella di Lavaredo, from there a triangle painted on the rock makes us deviate to the left where we face the Ferrata delle Scalette. Very nice experience only for equipped people with some experience. 17 ladders divide us from the top (Via ferrata to be done ONLY uphill). Once we reach the top we admire the spectacle not only of the Three Peaks but also of the entire Catinaccio Group. From there we descend along the Ferrata Hosp which takes us to the Locatelli Refuge. The return to Rifugio Auronzo is the same.

A must see and walk of the sud Tyrol UNESCO heritage Dolomites site. We reached the rifugio Auronzo with car (30 euros ticket to access for the private street) starting from there the circular walk that brings first right under the three peaks, and later to the rifugio Locatelli. 4+ hours for not trained people. Overall sustainable with few moments of struggle on some climbing. Take care to use sun protection also with cloudy weather to avoid unexpected sunburns

Understandably known as one of the most beautiful places on earth - at least once you get past the traffic! The rock formations and views here are truly stunning, with excellent hiking, some good via ferrata routes, lots of bell-clanging cows and attractive rifugios. Definitely worth the effort.
And what is that effort? Well this top destination has a challenge shared with its peer Yosemite - far too many people want to see it than it can readily accommodate. Yosemite at least has a few car entrances but Tre Cime has one only - one! Every visitor in a vehicle has to drive around to the entrance near Misurina and hope they arrive early enough (7:30? 8:00? 8:30?) to get a parking spot - get there too late, and there is no option other than hoping to find a spot on the side of the road outside the park and then wait for the bus that takes you to Rifugio Auronzo - and the bus might be sold out too and/or have a long wait. As more and more people know how early you need to get there, more and more people go early and thus the time you need to get there keeps going down. Essentially this is a bigger version of Moraine Lake in Banff - just way too many people who (understandably) want access to a special place.
Once at Auronzo, the crowds are large, with the primary walkway into the Tre Cime valley feeling like walking through DisneyWorld crowds in places - just more beautiful. If your expectations are for a peaceful walk in nature, change your expectations! We have tried both weekdays and weekends and weekdays (at least summer/early fall) don't seem to lessen the crowds much.
If you hope to take one of the quintessential photos at Cadina di Misurina, just know that the line might be as much as an hour long.
That said, it is so crowded because it lives up to the hype - just amazingly beautiful. Go off the main trails if you can, and it will become easier to walk and quieter, though the main trails are generally the preferred viewing locations. Another alternative is to access the park on foot from one of the trails in, such as from the Auronzo (town) or Misurina area. These are long and steep walks in, but far less travelled. Another option is to avoid the Tre Cime formation itself and spend time in other areas (such as up from Misurina) that provide very nice views and hiking.

We did the classic circular tour in an anti-clockwise direction, I must admit the 3 PEAKS but more generally the ENTIRE hiking route deserves the fame it enjoys.
We went up from Dobbiaco using the bus (it is necessary to book on the website) and just arriving at the Auronzo refuge you can enjoy one of the most beautiful and "immense" views I have seen (I have been frequenting the mountains for 40 years).
Even for elderly/disabled/... people I recommend this stage even just to enjoy a day with the fantastic view that can be enjoyed on the terrace of the Auronzo refuge, you can arrive directly by bus/car, but find out carefully about the road conditions.
We started the tour in the afternoon to avoid the crowds, there are in fact a lot of people especially in the easier initial stretch. We stayed overnight at the Locatelli refuge with 2 children aged 7 and 10 in a private room (NB you have to book several months in advance, there are no showers but separate areas for men and women with large cold water sinks: we cleaned the children with the wipes.... but these "sacrifices" are worth the experience and the children will carry it with them for life)
The next morning we took a walk around the Locatelli refuge: to the caves to take the classic photos of the 3 peaks, to the lake and to the "sausage monolith". Then we set off again to conclude the circular tour, we stopped at the Langalm hut for an excellent lunch and concluded the tour.
There are many other variations, via ferratas, etc.. the circular tour is the simple classic one for everyone.

Words cannot describe the majesty of the Dolomites. The Tre Cime di Lavaredo are something unique and I couldn't wait to see them in person. Path 101 - the most popular - starts from the Auronzo refuge at 2,320m above sea level. The tour is clockwise or anti-clockwise (seeing the flow you will be led to do it anti-clockwise) for a total of 10km which we covered in 3 and a half hours at a good pace. In some sections it is more tiring because it is uphill and with the sun in front of you, so bring water, otherwise you can buy it at the 4 refuges you come across. Medium difficulty path, to be done with a bit of training but the landscapes will be difficult to forget!
Let's get to the sore point: the parking. From the provincial road near Lake Misurina the road starts which after a few meters leads to 2 car parks and one for camper parking and then to the Auronzo refuge (where there is a toll of €30 which is valid as parking). This road was closed by the municipality already at 9am, a sign that it was full everywhere.
The alternative is the Dolomitibus shuttle, which stops in front of the Misurina hotel, which arrives in 20 minutes. The ticket can be purchased on board, it has a daily rate of €10 whether it is a return trip or a single route. Even to park in Misurina it is still necessary not to arrive late. In short, summer is a busy period and you need to move early.
Unfortunately, from the timetable we see the trips every 30', too much considering how many people use them and in fact, once we arrived, it was so full that we couldn't get on. So, in order not to wait any longer and risk another flop, we decided to get to the Auronzo refuge on foot! In hindsight it is a choice that I would evaluate well. The climb is perhaps more tiring than path 101 and takes 1h 30'. So a total of 5 hours of trekking! On the way back shuttle bus every 10'/15'.. much more sensible.

Hello, I was at the Park Rifugio di Auronzo Tre Cime di Lavaredo on October 15th, I lost my bag, a black bag Dolce&Gabbana, in the park. I’m trying to contact with the Park by phone and e-mail, but I can’t. I would like to know if someone found the bag or have some contact from the park, the guardhouse or some employee. Can I help me?

Hello, we are looking to do a 2-night trek in September staying at Rifugio Zsigmondy and Fonda Savio (the two huts I’ve been able to get reservations at!). I’m having trouble finding details about possible routes and ensuring this is a good plan. We are moderately experienced hikers but would like to avoid any via ferratas as my husband has a fear of heights. I’d appreciate any guidance on a route for this trek. Thank you!

Is there a lift that takes you to tre cime ? We’re staying in sesto. Thanks
Written 30 September 2022
Hi there. There is not a lift that takes you to Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Should be an easy drive from Sesto. Highly suggest going very early in the morning as there is a limited space parking lot. Plan to arrive no later than 8am. If you do not arrive early, there is a great chance the lot will be full and you will have an uphill walk to the beginning of the trail. Not fun. Wear lots of layers (plus gloves, hat) as some areas are windy and quite cold. There are several refuges there so you can stop and take a break, when needed. I'm not a hiker and it was totally doable for me.

Hello. I'm planning to hike Tre Cime di Lavaredo on September 19,2022. I'm hoping to park at Rifugio Auronzo overnight and stay at Rifugio Locatelli. Is the 19th of September late enough that parking will not be overcrowded and I'll be able to find a spot? I estimate trying to park around 4:00pm that day. Thank you!

Buona passeggiata.
