So everybody goes to madarao and rides their gladed tree runs etc and perhaps ... if they have time ... they might quickly do a few runs over at the interlinked tangram. Well I’m here to tell you (why I don’t know, cause I should keep it a secret) that tangram has plenty of great runs too. It doesn’t have expansive terrain or heaps of vertical but the terrain it does have is varied and reliable and uncrowded except for weekends and public holidays. Groomers super quite on a no pow day . Fun little terrain park too with 3 decent intermediate jumps, well groomed and zero crowds.

As reviewed on skiing sites such as powderhounds, this resort could not be more different to the adjacent resort of Madarao Kogen. We came over here for a day from Madarao.

The resort is very much designed for intermediate and beginners, and has plenty of open terrain. All the runs finish at the base of the mountain and the facilities are all located at the base. It has plenty of children play and learning areas, and loads of groomed slopes. On the day we were there, they also had some short mogul runs on the beginner slopes for people to learn how to ride moguls. There was also a small ski/board cross styled course setup for their children lessons, after which was opened to the public (it was fun).

However, because of the limited terrain (they only allow riding/skiing on groomed runs), it only took about 3 hours before boredom began to set in. There is plenty of nice off-piste terrain which is out-of-bounds. Judging by the lack of trails in them I suspect they do enforce their no-off-piste policy reasonably strictly. We did do the naughties and cut some fresh tracks through a closed section (closed because a small crack appeared in the snow pack, indicating some sliding / creeping of the snow pack). What we didn't count on, having ridden in the adjacent Madarao Kogen resort for the past 4 days was that this untouched powder was over a rather firm base, as apparent in this video http://youtu.be/020k7vDsLSc when we hit the hidden firm bumps underneath.

With the vast amount of potentially nice tree skiing terrain on offer, we would definitely go back if they relax their off-piste policy (hopefully one day), or when we have young kids in tow.

not a great value for the quality. in an area full of lovely little spots to eat I don't know why anyone would go here...except Tangram ski resort offers a lot of fun space for kids to run around.
