This may be difficult to access without a car, but it's definitely worth a visit! Do have a little walk around the island with St Finbarr's chapel before going to the main park. IF you wish to park in the main car parks, it's 5 euro to pass the barrier (only coins accepted). Otherwise, parking is available by the hotel/... More

This is a stunningly beautiful area of Ireland. Although off the beaten path, it is well worth the time, especially if you are looking to kick back and relax.

Wonderful place for a walk with plenty of fresh air. If in the area I recommend a visit. Hotel and Cafe were closed due to time of the year.

Went out of the way to visit Gougane Barra and was glad to do so. Spent about two hours enjoying the extraordinary peacefulness and beauty of the village and lake ...didn't go past the village-church area but wandered through the ruins, visited the tiny church of St Finbarr. Finished in Cronins for some coffee and scones and took a look... More

Arriving in Gougane Barra I was initially struck by the peace and beauty of the area. It's an area of great natural beauty and I happily wandered around by the lake and the Church, reading by the fascinating history of the area. From there I went for a long walk through the National Forest. I would recommend that everyone visits... More

Just lovely and peaceful Natural Forest Park. One negative- be careful as there are many Caterpillar Ants which has bitten me and my kids. Use lots of sprays and cover your body ;)

The pond and church surrounded by high hills that greet you upon arrival will take your breath away. This is a beautiful stop with several trails and areas to walk. The church is quaint to go into and beautiful. If you want beautiful scenery this is THE spot to go to.

The park is so beautiful that it's hard to put into words. It's home to the most amazing toilets in Ireland for starters. The park itself is immense, so big and so quiet. An ideal spot for a nice stroll but just as good for hardened hikers too

our first visit was three years ago and couldn't wait to get back for a picnic and hike. there has been a pest that has caused major deforestation and it was shocking to see; trees down, creek dried up, no sheep in sight. however the hiking trails are very well maintained and this is still a nice park to visit...
