After trekking almost everywhere in South America (Missing Ecuador), this was the most reclude national park of all-time. I was there september 2017 and I met 2 other gringos in the whole park during 3 days! Very calm and unique nature down there

Great place for hiking, I did the Ritacuba trail -about 19km, 3900-4900meters elevation. Crazy loss of breath, but a good challenge for those who like this kind of adventure. I had a difficult time getting to the top, but I have never hiked above 2300m previously and so even as a 'beginner' for high altitude hikes I managed to do it in the average time (about 8 hours). Requires some good planning however, low-season is great, in February there was almost no one and the weather was still good! :) Fidel Balbuena was our guide, he is genuine, encouraging and simply amazing, I recommend getting him for the hikes. He is associated with cabana Kanwara. Have fun out there!!!

Whether you are a weekend rambler or an experienced mountain man you'll find something to thrill you. Exceptional landscapes, unspoilt environment, walking, trekking or climbing 5000m peaks with the added plus of astoundingly helpful locals to stay with, be organised by or be guided upwards, this mountain region deserves the highest accolade.

Great hiking experience! Many different trails to choose from ~ all with amazing views! I am not super experienced, so it was challenging but not impossible! Not recommended for young children or older adults who aren't used to this kind of hiking. Hacienda La Esperanza is so welcoming, delicious food, and a great chance to meet people from all over the world! Highly recommend using a guide as trails at times aren't clearly marked! This was my 3rd trip, and I can't wait to go again!!!

Hacienda la Esperanza is an amazing place to stay and I would highly recommend it to everyone! The host family is very welcoming, the food is incredibly delicious, the beds are comfy, and the views from the hostel are unbeatable!

Incredible view and landscape. Great hiking experience at 15.000 ft (5.000) above sea level. Not crowded and very peaceful. You will need to make sure you take just the right amount of gear needed since you don't want to carry unnecessary items uphill where oxygen is very scarse.
If it's your first time an experienced guide is recommended. Mine was a local mountanier (lopez.8josue@hotmail.com). Very polite and adaptable, but specially very knowledgeable.
The place is a hidden gem.

You might never get to hiking in the park if you stay here too long. Hospitality is only outmatched by the food. Go here

I guess than this place is more well know by foreigners climbers than by the most of Colombian people. The towns El Cocuy and Güican are beautiful by its architecture, history and its people are so kind, the most don't know english very well but they try to do the best for make that you are at home. There are many places where you can get an astonishing view of the Sierra Nevada. If you want to climb the Sierra Nevada, you need to make a registration in the office of Parques Nacionales in Cocuy or Güican, you have to pay around of 14 USD ( concepts: insurance and entrance). It's advisable to take the service of a guide, it have an extra cost (around 45USD to arrive just at the snow border line). Also you need have a good physical state to go there, the climb and altitude are hard to beat if you are an untrained climber. The best time for go is on January. For sure the landscape will amaze you.
