Amazing views from the monastery, looking at the Aegean sea, nearby small, isolated beach.
Very energetic place.

Beautiful monetary in Thassos

This Monastery is stunning, beautiful and immaculate.
Clothing is given for you to cover up if you have shorts or your shoulders uncovered.
You can access most areas on the lower part of the Monastery, great view out to sea.
Well worth a visit and free.

Nice view but you can see just a small part of the monastery
Sep. 2019
The place is very impressive. You have to cover yourself to enter the site. If you don't have something to wear, they give you it for free at the entrance. Problem is that you can see just a little part of the monastery but this is normal because it is still used nowadays by the monks. Anyway you can enjoy fantastic view from the terrace. If you are a faithful Orthodox you can also appreciate the small part of the monastery you can visit with a small Church with icons.

We returned to the monastery having previously arrived at 2.40pm on a previous day. The monastery is closed from 2.30 - 4pm. Entered and because I was wearing shorts I was offered some trousers to cover my legs. My wife was already wearing a long dress and had her shoulders covered so didn’t need and covering. So walked to the terrace overlooking the sea which is wonderful. The next part is to go into a small chapel with lots of icons. There were plenty of Eastern European’s present so much crossing and kissing of icons. The interior was a bit disappointing really for a normal Christian. So onto the shop which is quite nice and we did purchase a a icon as a reminder of our visit. The Nun behind the counter never said a word. Which may be understandable. I would have liked like many more to see the main church. But this wasn’t to be. As I said it’s a bit disappointing and I probably wouldn’t recommend it unless you are Orthodox Church

Well worth a visit . I stayed at the monastery for a few days. ManyOrthodox pilgrims from all over Europe were staying there. It was a spiritually strengthening experience. In previous reviews some people mentioned that parts of the monastery are cordoned off , yes this is reserved for the nuns and proskinites (pilgrims ) who come and stay and also attend the church services while staying at the monastery . Chuch servicescate attended to 3 times per day . The views are magnificent the nuns were very welcoming and the food was delicious. It was a really humbling experience to see how the nuns live and pray . I also walked to the cave of the Holy spring with a blessing from the Igoumenisa , that was an experience to remember . Please be careful it is dangerous and difficult it takes about 40min non stop each way . You have to descend the side of the mountain then climb over large boulders and fallen rocks on the treacherous shore line . In some parts you have to jump to the next rocks . You are not able to hold anything so take a small back if you can . Best to be done in the morning before you are pelted by the sun . Also please check opening times so as not to be disappointed the monastery closes during the day I think 2pm to 4pm but check website.

Great view outside the Monastery. The Monastery itself was very smal and dark, but that shows how old it is.
