Had the most enjoyable wine tasting experience at this vineyard. Rita was a lovely and informative host with her knowledge of the family wines, the family history of the vineyard and the gardens that she & her husband Bob have created and are forever developing! Tastings are by appointment only and for me, it was a pleasure to sit down and enjoy the lovely wines that were offered with the history behind them. We were so impressed by the wines that we joined the Grey Sands Wine Club! It is well worth the visit but don't forget to book.
Rita, just a extra special mention, thank you for the birthday text!😊

Bookings for tasting are by appointment. We tasted every wine currently available, the youngest the 2018 Shiraz and the oldest the 2010 Merlot. Most wines were around 5 years old, but with excellent structure and can be cellared for longer!!

My wife and I rang Grey Sands out of the blue as we are fans of their wines, the Mattock in particular, and were looking for a short day trip from Launceston. Despite it being off season Rita got straight back to us and arranged not only a tasting but gave us info on beautiful side tours on the way and some lunch ideas. The property is nothing short of breathtaking, the wines to die for and Rita is the most delightful and informative host one could wish for. I could not recommend Grey sands highly enough, the visit was so much more than we could have hoped for, we felt like royalty. (unfortunately the chance to kidnap the beautiful dog never arose!) We will be back with others.

Visited Grey Sands last weekend and were very well looked after by Bob and Rita. Tasted and purchased a number of their wines. Would highly recommend a visit on one of the weekends that they open to the public (check their Facebook site for details).

I visited Rita and Bob as part of the 2018 Farmgate Festival in November. I was amazed at the extravagant and indulgent gardens at the pinnacle of the property. Looking down over the vineyard, bordered by a blooming spring garden was quite the site. Both Rita and Bob are friendly and a wealth of knowledge. Their cool climate wines are refreshingly unique and I particularly enjoy the Pinot Gris.

My connection to Grey Sands goes back now several years, and there is no sign of waning enthusiasm. Rita and Bob Richter have been growing in their superb Tamar Valley location since the late 1980's, with their approach reflecting what they saw in France during a European sojourn before that. Rita has told me that Bob set out to grow the best grapes for winemaking that he could, and his results are a testimony to the successful achievement of that goal. When I visited them several years ago, the wines were then being made by the skilled winemaker at Bay of Fires (just across the Tamar Bridge), and I think that is still the case. In any event, the results are extraordinary. The use of natural yeasts make their Pinot Noir an authentic echo of the wines of Burgundy, but with its own strong voice. These are exceptional reds and give me a pleasant remembrance of the Pinots of Pommard and Volnay I was drinking in the 90's. The Pinot Gris has its own voice as well, standing up to the wines of the Veneto, and, in some years, the lovely, fruit-driven Alsatian Gris. There are other wines in their range as well, and all show the excellence that only passion and commitment can bring. Go see them (call first)! You will be warmly welcomed, and go away with pleasant memories, boxes of wine, and an understanding of how truly remarkable Tasmanian wines can be.

A great view over the vineyard and some different varieties of wine to taste. Recommend making an appointment or calling in on an open day to try something a little bit different from your standard varieties.

A very enjoyable vineyard visit. The hosts are so friendly and knowledgeable and the wine tasting includes some unusual wines. Wine can also be purchased by glass/bottle. The garden and views are beautiful too, very relaxing spot to sit and enjoy a glass of wine.
