Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There is a big parking place, 4öö HUF/hour, the maximum stay is 3 hours. From there is 6-7 minutes short walk to the fort. The entrance fee is 3500 HUF for a family. The fort is partly renovated, some room also with installations. The view is perfect from the fort. I can recommend tovisit.

The castle is newly renovated. It is truly worth the visit. Larger than expected and lots of stairs to walk up and down to different sections. Am glad to see that they have rebuilt this beautiful castle so that we today can visit and enjoy it.

Holloko is a UNESCO World Heritage site that's located two hours north of Budapest. Upon arriving, head to Holloko Castle or var in Hungarian and pay the 700 forint admission. The fee includes a tour of the grounds as well as picturesque mountain views.

After leaving the var, head to the left and down the castle trail to reach the ancient homes of the Palóc people. Make sure to sample the local cuisine such as the Paloc soup. Here's a tourist tip, after reaching the end of the village, continue past the coffee shop and you'll find yourself near the bus station. There's no need to backtrack to the entrance. Enjoy one of Budapest's world wonders.

Wonderful view on the surrounding area, it cost about 3 euro to enter, there a small museum, and you can walk along the walls, and climb the stairs of the castle, to get a panoramic nice view.

This castle is much beautiful than what you actually read from the visitors. The view from the top is breathtaking. Must visit the ofalu village on the way back.

The best time to visit Hollokö is during Easter because they have a full program for 2 days. Whether you sleep in the village (book several weeks in advance) or in a nearby village, if you plan to stay 2 days, let them know so that they give you a 2-day ticket: it will avoid the queue the 2nd day.
The castle is on the hill above the village, a short hike and gives great views over the green valley. The castle has lost its roof in many places but lots remains to make it really interesting to visit.

If you have the special Easter ticket, all is included otherwise the castle or each of the museums have a small fee.

I enjoyed every second of the visit to the castle. I truly experienced it as a whole, looking at the most hidden places and snooping around as a child. There is an amazing story about a king taking a random girl as a prisoner in the castle because she was too pretty, and the interior just takes you inside the story. I'd recommend it to everyone visiting the area. It's truly unbelievable.

On paying the entry fee a wristband is issued which gives free entrance to all the 'shops' in the old village, one also gets a map identifying different buildings.
The castle itself is very well preserved ,and as one climbs higher ,offers spectacular views of the countryside.
Whilst we were there we did some 'wine tasting' in the Juhasz Ferenc cellar ...excellent.

1.5 hour drive from Budapest. From the car park, you can walk up a muddy hill about 10-15 minutes to the castle. Toilets are nearby and signposted.

The castle is 600huf entry, but we went on a Sunday and it was free! A small castle, not very grand, but nice views over the Holloko old town. As mentioned below, not labelled in English.

There is a cafe but only with drinks, no food.

From the castle, walk past the toilets for less than 10 minutes to the old town. This is beautifully preserved, and very folksy.

Overall, we stayed in Holloko for 2 hours, no more than 30 mins in the castle though.
