One of the old churches we visited during our Visita Iglesia in Iloilo, Janiuay Church is made of brick and lime stones and stands proud on a hilly part of the town center. The original Janiuay church, another Augustinian built church, was started by Friar Miquel Carod who was assigned to Janiuay as the parish priest between 1830 and 1871. The actual construction was started in 1849 but Friar Carod died in November 1871 with the ‘finishing touches’ yet to be made to the church. ive known this church for life , i used to attend Sunday mass here, and when i was in high school i visited this church almost everyday. this is where most of the janiuynons got married including my sister, this is where janiuaynons baptize their children, a lot of happy memories took place happiness and sorrows are exactly opposite and...
