Paradisiac beach, seafood & a legendary artist...
Sep. 2017 • Friends
If you want a perfect day out but don’t want to just spend the day at the beach head out to Barra de Sao Miguel. It’s a short ride from Maceio and a beautiful, quiet beach (at least in late September). After the beach, by the Barra Bali resort, including drinks and snacks with our chairs in the water (being spoiled does not have to cost the earth), we went for lunch to Pontal da Barra. We ate at the famous Restaurante Mare, where we had 3 very different but delicious shrimp dishes while feasting our eyes on the view of the “lagoa” (lake). It’s a breath-taking view and so peaceful despite being close to a busy road! Following the advice of a friend, we then went a couple of streets away to visit Teka Rendeira, one of the most famous lace-makers (rendeira) of the estate. She is a real legend, very humble about her craft, and the muse of Martinho da Vila’s “Teka Rendeira” song. She told us a bit about the history of the “renda de file” and her own contribution to this handicraft for several decades now. This was the icing on the cake of a perfect day: a living legend sharing her craft and time with us after a few hours in a paradisiac beach and a shrimp feast with great friends, what else can a girl ask for? I definitely need to go back….

Barra de Sao Miguel is a very special beach spot, in the NE cost of Brazil. Located on the state of Alagoas, where you can find some of the most beautiful landscapes around the ocean and considered by many the Brazilian version of Caribbean, due to the blue color of the waters and abundance of coconut trees. Ocean waters are usually green in Brazil.
The main beach, on the center of the city, is very quiet and has no waves, due to a large coral reef formation that extend for a couple of kilometers. Perfect for family, kids and those who love snorkeling. In some days, the beach tide forms natural pools and beautiful sand wave designs. The area has basic infrastructure, with restaurants and bars offering umbrellas and chairs, snacks and cold beer. Very affordable prices.
Avoid the 1st day of the year, where free buses loaded with people from all over the state to enjoy a public party, making the place crowded, noisy and dirty.
A five minute walk to the west side leads you to a complete different scene: A place name Barramar, an ocean opened beach with strong waves, paradise for surfers and fisherman or for those that just like to enjoy the surroundings. A stoning sunrise and kilometers of an almost empty white sand beach, makes this place really magic. Only the owners of the beach houses (like me), are usually walking around, running and appreciating the beauty. A perfect place to relax and feel connected to mother nature. Except for the Kenoa resort, where you can enjoy some gourmet food and expensive drinks, there is no development around, so bring your own cooler and food if you’re planning to spend the day. Don’t forget your sunscreen and umbrella. You may don’t feel due to the nice winds, but the sun is killer!
A little further (10 minute drive), takes you the French beach (Praia do Frances). A “hot” and famous location, lots of shopping options, food and drinks. Half of the beach is also covered by a reef, making it very quiet waters with lots of fun, like banana boat and some other sports waters attractions. The other half (moving to Barramar direction), has strong and high waves and one of the most beautiful sunset you’ll see in life. Service is usually slow due to the high number of customers. The place is crowded, load music, but great to see all kind of characters around, from famous surfers and jet-set to local

We did the lease with the owner of the 332 apartment on the 3rd floor of the Barra Bali resort. The apartment urgently needs maintenance on taps, ceiling fans and mainly windows that cutlery, pots and pans, (nor did the kitchen knife have to cut Nothing if you need to cut a lemon does not), which makes it impossible to even a simple breakfast in the apartment. The owner of the apartment and the type of person that charges you twice more for the amount of energy spent during the rental period, we saw this By the light bill left in the apartment. Before that the condominium sewage pit is under the window of this apartment and there the suction truck is outside is parked under the window from 3 to 4 times a day on weekends giving off an odor Horrible for the apartment that does not have air conditioning in the living room which makes it impossible to close the windows, ie and need to leave the apartment.I do not recommend to rent this apartment.
The condo is perfect for all ages, young, old, children there is every kind of fun for everyone with great security, tranquility. The beach and top, beautiful and civilized people, the restaurant inside can improve. For those who like craft beer there is a shop inside the condominium that sells first line chopp. We will go back but not in this apartament

This is a great natural beauty

This is a hard one to evaluate. I love the place and have been coming there every time I am in Maceio. Like every where in the planet places like this attract commercial interest. It is annoying if you want to have a peaceful place. And you can do that if you walk away from the hot spot. The tourist busses will bring you to the commercial area for sure. How ever places like that is sustaining the locals and the local economy plus there are some great experiences like kayaks that the children love. Bring cash and only eat fresh food made in front of you while the the water. Ex. grilled cheese ( my favorite) and fruit cocktails. No raw food or already cooked ( you may get sick)

The beach itself is a natural beauty. However, it is full of cheap restaurants right on top of it and it gets really messy with people all around.

Beautiful beach, protect by coral reefs: green ocean and calm waters
Sep. 2014 • Couples
This beach is one of the most famous near Maceio. So, it is always crowded on weekends. We were there on Monday, therefore it was very calm and peaceful.
Protected by coral reefs near the beach, it is perfect for kids and everybody who is not interested in high waves. Warm water makes it even more pleasant.
You can hire STP, cayaks and boat rides to natural pools formed on the low tides.
