About
Ayal Aboriginal Tours Kakadu (Ayal) was created in 2008 to share traditional Indigenous culture with visitors to Kakadu National Park (Kakadu). Ayal provides guests with an authentic, cultural experience delivered by a local Indigenous guide who lives in Kakadu. Ayal is family owned and operated. Our guests are hosted by Victor Cooper an experienced elder of Kakadu who has deep knowledge of the cultural and historical significance of the areas that we visit on our tours. Tour Products & Services: Guests can join Ayal on one of our day tours that visit the world famous rock art sites in Kakadu, provide unique insights into the Indigenous and European history of Kakadu, experience the rivers, billabongs, wetlands and the magnificent wildlife of the National Park. Private charter tours can be arranged within Kakadu and west Arnhemland with a specifically designed itinerary to suit your needs. Ayal provides ‘Step on Guide’ services for commercial tour operators who require a qualified, local Indigenous guide to enhance their Kakadu experience. Victor Cooper is also available for consultancy services such as cultural talks and presentations; tourism mentoring and training of tour guides in Kakadu National Park. The Ayal tourist vehicles and driver can be privately chartered for transport of guests throughout Kakadu when and where needed. Experience & Expertise: Victor is a Traditional Owner of Kakadu and holds the Kakadu Knowledge for Tour Guides Accreditation. As a Minitja man, Victor has the Indigenous credentials to tell and interpret the stories that are attached to the sites visited on the Ayal tours. Victor’s experience is firstly field-based as one of the first Indigenous rangers for Kakadu National Park looking after the country and then later he was based in management at Park Headquarters. Victor’s other roles in the community, past & present, include member of the Kakadu Board of Management representing the Minitja clan group. Currently Victor is acting Chair of the Kakadu Tourism Consultative Committee.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Victor Cooper is a well-informed, professional and informative guide. We went on a tour through the Ubirr and Nourlangie Rock art sites in Kakadu National Park and neighbouring Arnhem Land this spring. His tour includes discussions of indigenous art, local history and a fascinating running commentary of the flora and fauna, including bush tucker (edible berries, plants etc). I learned he was a park ranger guide at Kakadu for 25 years before starting Ayal, so he knows his stuff! He's fairly quiet--not the most boisterous, outgoing dude on the planet, but his quiet dedication impresses and you're in safe hands with him (safe driver, crocodile leery!)

Victor took the 2 of us on a great day tour of the Kakadu around Jabiru. Heavy rain the previous night had flooded a crossing to Ubir but Victor used his vast knowledge to take to other important sites and shared his deep love of his environment. He enlightened us how the traditional landowners care for and live off the natural resources using only what they need to live and not damage the bush for the future. Thoroughly recommended.

We were recommended by another tour guide that Victor was the 'best person in Kakadu' to give us a guide of aboriginal art, and we weren't disappointed. We emailed the day before asking for a quick half day tour to Ubirr as we only had a few hours to spare, and Victor was very happy to just take us for this time. His knowledge of the area, the art, the plants and animals, and the way the landowners use the land was amazing, and we could have sat for hours listening to him. Highly recommended if you would like a tour through Kakadu with someone who knows the country better than most.

We had a private afternoon tour with Victor to Ubirr and Cahill's Crossing. The tour was interesting and informative, and Victor was very courteous and shared his great knoweledge of the area and its history. We would recommend taking one of his tours, and we will be back to take another tour with him soon.

We asked Victor for a private tour with the four of us and with a personalized itinerary. Victor gave us a wonderful day, he is a gifted storyteller, with a lot of knowledge about the environment, history and rock art. He had a great sense of humour and we could listen to him for weeks. And he provided a great morning-tea, he even backed banana-bread himself the night before. If you have a change, you should book a tour with him.

This tour only takes a maximum of 12 people. Our tour operator Victor Cooper came to pick us up in the morning and he told us we were the only 2 people on the trip. Victor is a Kakadu Ranger and he is very knowledgable in all the aspects of flora and fauna and also he showed us some very old aboriginal cave painting. Also he supplies morning tea and lunch which he makes it himself.
If you are going to Kakadu I would highly recommend this tour operator.
He also showed us some bush tucker and went out of his way if you want to see something if you have time.

We spent a day in the Stone Country and elsewhere in Kakadu with Victor Cooper. He was an informative guide who took us to rock painting sites here and there. We covered Ubirr, the Alligator Rivers county, and more. We learned about the social and geological history of the areas and the impact of mining. When we visited one site a woman was reading a brochure as we approached. We exchanged words and she said she had brought along and was reading a brochure she got when she first visited the site 27 years ago. Victor asked to see it, and then said 'That's me, twenty-seven years ago,' pointing to a young man with a lot of hair in the picture. That was serendipity. Proof, were it needed, of his long association with these sites. We saw a rainbow serpent painting for the first time. Remarkable. We ascended rocks to see sweeping views of the low country.

We took Victor's trip to Ubirr, East Alligator and South Alligator Rivers, Mamukala Bird Hide and finally Jabiru Township itself. It is a full day and at Ubirr you'll be climbing rocks but the Paintings and views are just extraordinary.
Victor can talk to you about Uranium mines, Plants, Animals, Dreamtime and everything in between...
My friends were from France, one English speaker, one (almost) English speaker, one Francophone... all were impressed by Victor's manner and patience!
Highly, highly recommended.
