We took the Hokianga express boat across from Hokianga harbour to the sand dunes - it takes about 8 minutes. The boatman provides you with sand boards for riding the dunes which was much more fun (and less scary!) than I had expected. We tried...More

What a blast we had. We took our 2 year old across to the dune for a couple of hours. Sliding down the dunes on body boards is a blast. It’s so private. It feels like your own piece of paradise.

For $27/adult and $17/child this has got to be one of the best value for money experiences around. A five minute boat ride from Opononi gets you to the far uninhabited side of the harbour and you get dropped on the beach with boogie boards...More
