Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent half a day trekking through Cat Ba National Park and the hike to the peak was absolutely worth it. The views from the top were breathtaking. I highly recommend bringing plenty or water, a fan and an umbrella if you can. The heat in Vietnam at this time of the year could be intense.

It's a nice activity to do in cat ba. You can do a trek of 2h to go forth and back. You will have an amazing view over the national park. 80% of the path is with concrete or rocks stairs, the last 20% is more complex and very steep , but doable for kids and senior ( we've seen a lot of groups )
You don't need to book the most expensive ticket to do that the second one at 120k is already enough and with that one you can also go to the famous cave 500m from there.

We enjoyed the respite from the sun when we done our afternoon hike. None of us are unfit but the hike was a challenge and in places not the safest with slippery boulders instead of steps. The view from the top is amazing, just ensure you have adequate footwear and plenty of water.
The national park entrance fee of 160k seemed steep by Vietnam standards, and it didn't really feel like much money had been ploughed into it, the entrance looked quite dated and signs where they were available were very faded.

I visited Cat Ba National Park with my wife and kids (10 months, 3 and 6 years old) to climb the peak. The hike is a little challenging, especially with kids. Besides the great view from the peak there is not that much to see. Still, the peak and the view there are worth the hike.

We were in the national park in February, it was low season and therefore not very busy.
Entry fee per person 80,000 VND
Parking space for scooters 5,000 VND
Toilets are available at the entrance.
We hiked to the viewing point, which is signposted.
The path up is sometimes very strenuous and there are not only very high steps but you have to really climb the last part. Sturdy shoes and enough water are recommended.
You have a wonderful view from the top. It is definitely worth it.
When you get back down, towards the exit, you can observe and see lots of butterflies.

The trails were challenging but rewarding, leading us to breathtaking viewpoints over limestone cliffs and the emerald bay. Spotted some rare langurs from afar - what luck! The local guide shared fascinating stories about the park's ecosystem. Despite the humidity, it was a perfect adventure for us nature-loving lovebirds.

The challenging climb to the viewpoint was totally worth it - the panoramic views of limestone cliffs and the bay were breathtaking. Spotted some rare langur monkeys too! The well-marked trails and knowledgeable local guide made our adventure perfect. Pack plenty of water and good hiking shoes!

If you’re looking to get in some hiking and great views while on the Dolan of Cat Ba this is a must visit! It gets busier as the day goes on so I suggest getting here in the morning. Your park pass gives you entry to the hiking trails and caves within the park. The smog is quite bad in the winter months it seems so the views are quite obstructed.

We booked the jungle trekkingtour with boattour Lan Hai bay at the end. It was very well organized and We had a great tourguide Van! He speaks very good english and knows everything about the nature. He tells you a lot about Vietnam. We climbed up & down over steps, rocks and slipery ground, but Van was always close and very helpfull. We are 62 years old and in a normal condiotion. It's a tough trekking tour but very beautifull. We had good diner in a little Village, a nice biketour to the little harbour, where we got on a local boat through the beautifull bay. We had also good kayaking and a lovely swimm. We recommend highly Van and this tour.

We explored Cat Ba National Park and were struck by its unique geological formations, shaped by millions of years of erosion. The panoramic ocean views from the summit are breathtaking, offering a glimpse into the park's stunning biodiversity. With scenic hiking trails and opportunities to spot rare wildlife, Cat Ba is a must-visit destination for nature-loving couples. Don't miss the chance to experience its natural beauty!

Are there still animals in cages in Cat Ba National Park? I’m hesitating about going there if there is such history about animal cruelty.

Does anyone know if we can take our motorbike on the ferry to Cat Ba?

Yeah I saw people on our ferry with motorbikes and scooters, I'm not sure how much it would cost or whether you need to get the ticket somewhere else

How can we help get these caged monkeys released or moved into a better place?
Written 4 February 2017
Hi I'm desperately trying to find a contact address to complain too after seeing not only the condition of the park with the litter but the poor monkeys. Truly heartbreaking, all the email addresses I've come across including the ones displayed on the board outside have been sent back to me as the addresses don't exist apparently. I'm still trying to contact places but having little luck, has anybody managed to get through to someone ?

I have no idea but I heard they were saved from a worse place or are mentally damaged and a danger to others if let loose or in cages with other animals so I think it's the lesser of 2 evils
