The reason for the title is that this beach is a gem !! If too many hear about this beach I feel it might spoil it. The beach is mid-sized inside the Portimao/Ferragudo breakwater. It is completely safe for small children and is one of...More

This will always be our beech of choice it is clean and the bars and restaurant are brilliant. It is safe for kids and is a favourite with the locals which is always a good sign.

This is an area that is protected from the Atlantic by sea walls built almost all around it. There is still a tide but generally the sea is calm.

Park near the Restaurante Praia Grande and walk along the beach (tide permitting) to Ferragudo. It's a great stretch of sand with good views of Portimao across the river. Stroll back through the town.

This is a must-visit place. Want to jump in the waves? Want to be in an almost empty beach in a fantasticly beautiful place? This is where you go. Just take a taxi and ask him to come back in 2-3hours.

Clean beach with three or four pleasant cafe bars so you can spend all day. Quiet in November so acres of sand to ourselves. Pleasant walk from the end of the beach up the cliff and across to several other pleasant beaches also with bars...More
