If you have been to Samye, which is in the same area, this monastery will not show anything more. Suppose one reason to visit is to help the local tourist trade, they really need it.

I had to go there twice to finally able to enter. The first day, I arrived late, at 6:15 pm, to be told that the Monastery will be closed in 15 min. I returned the next day around 3 pm. One good aspect is that there are far fewer tourists here, making it a more pleasant place to explore than some of the monastries... More

This was one of the earliest Buddhist temples but there was not too much to see except for the large gold prayer wheel in front. There was one large piece of art in the interior but not much else of interest.

Most visitors might think "not another monastery!", but this is definitely worth visiting! There are some very rare relics in it, not to be found elsewhere! Climb all the way to the top section to see all the Holy shrines.

Thank Christopher P
