Good pligrimage place, Budha Gaya also good. One should learn from Budusit that one should maintain silence when we enter inside the temple we beleive. I got a very good hotel for stay and a good auto driver for local rodes.

Ancient Vishnu temple along the Falgu (Phalgu) river. The footprint of lords Vishnu is adorned with precious metal and flowers. Devotees touch their forehead to the footprint, believing it will bring good luck and happiness

Temple is very ancient. It us very easy to find a priest based on which location you are from. They take care of the things for Puja, we need to agree on a price, and give brahman daan to 3 people including the priest. Temple is nice

The pinddan at Gaya is done at three places.
Falguni river, Akshayvat and vishnupad temple.
The Falguni river is no longer existent, said to have dried up by Curse of Sita mata. The Goverent has turned a portion of Ganges river through a canal and feeding the dried falguni river.
In the vishnupad temple the impression of Right foot of Maha vishnu on a rock is worshipped.
Every evening the foot print is anointed with turmeric paste and vermilion. And worshipped
The impressions are transferred onto a white cloth and given to devotees after drying for worshipping in their pooja room.

An Ancient temple with a footprint said to have been made by Lord Vishnu. The approach road and the temple premises are always crowded. We visited the temple as part of Pind Daan, where 2nd part of rituals is performed and pind is offered at the temple. When we visited, the temple was moderately crowded, we could perform the rituals and darshan peacefully.

Vishnupad temple is known as the Hindu site for moksha..the place where one goes to God, Lord Vishnu, the preserver.
Every year, end of September there is a throng of people visiting the place in a time called Pitrapaksha. At this time, Vishnupad temple and other Centers of Gaya become a site for 'Pinda daan', a custom that each Hindu has to fulfill in his life to ensure 'moksha' for one's ancestors. It's a must.
So, every Hindu has to visit Gaya and the Vishnupad temple, once atleast. If he fails, his sons would for him, and so on.
The Best thing is the calmness, the Yogis, the rituals happening all around. Gives you the Indianess, the ecstasy. Though its not a all day visit place. You can choose to walk into the narrow streets of the Gaya old town that lies all aroun d the temple premises and choose to visit the old dharamshalas and numerous small temples that exist.
In summers, you must bring with you the summer gear as its really hot here, though the best visit time is, NOV Dec, temp is not that high and neither its too low. Plus, you will get to see many attractions in Bodh Gaya which is 15kms. from the temple.
This will make it a complete visit. You can go to Rajgir, Nalanda, Bodh Gaya, Koderma, and many other places that lie around.

In the temple there is Image of God Bishnu who emerged for salvation of the Soul of GAYASUR by keeping his right foot on his chest. The foot print on marble still remains & is beautiful to watch.

Well......for a tourist , Gaya might seem to be not too neat a place, with so many intricate small lanes, lot of cows roaming all over the place, dirtying the roads, too many beggars etc. etc..........but for people like me, who go there to perform religious rituals for the ancestors(Pithru Karyams)........all these scenes vanish from one's eyes and mind. Our goal is nothing but to accomplish our mission.......liberating the ancestors' souls (giving them mukthi). That's all.
Vishnupad temple is the main attraction of Gaya. Situated on the banks of Falguni River, Vishnupad is a very ancient temple, roughly about 300 years old. Bihari Brahmins, called Pandas are the priests there. Falguni, years back,in the period of Rama and Seeta( in the Treta Yuga) used to be with rippling waters, but, now is in sorry state .......fully dry and empty.....due to a curse , given by Seeta, because the river lied to Lord Rama. Even the Gaya Brahmins, have been cursed never to have a contented mind, and so, they keep on demanding money, about which we tourists are warned ahead. Only the banyan tree( Akshayavatam ) , which spoke the truth, is an everlasting and immortal symbol of the old myth, inside the temple premises.
The Vishnu Paad temple has the very big foot print of Lord Vishnu, the Preserver and Sustainer, encircled by silver basin and has Vishnu's weapons, Shankam, Chakram and Gadha. There is a story about this too.When Gayasura, the Rakshas was giving trouble to all the Devas, they requested Vishnu to save them. Gayasura was an ardent devotee of Vishnu too. When Vishnu asked him for a suitable large space to perform a big Homam ( havan ), a pooja done by lighting a big fire, Gayasura offered his heart and thus came his destruction. But Vishnu allowed him to live in the underworld ( paathal) and also gave him a boon that he will never ever be without food all over the year. People who go to Gaya offer cooked rice balls ( pindams) and pray to God for the liberation of their ancestors' souls.
It is customary to forsake a leaf, a vegetable and a fruit here, and we are not supposed to eat it for the rest of our lives.

A very nice place; lucky to have a cloudy sky on the day of my visit.
It is said the temple is made of granite (black) stone but the pujaris at the site say it is made of a stone called KASAUTI.
If one is going here then do not miss to eat the NASHTA of pooris (04)+spoonful vegetable+jalebis(04)+a curd based chutney ; all just for INR 20/- The meal may be spartan but is pretty good to eat and seems to be hygenic and fresh.(I ate it so i can vouch for it - though foreigners should eat it at their own risk coz you guys may not be used to our kind of preparations).
Close by is another attraction BODHGAYA TEMPLE where Prince Siddarth become a BODHI
From the railway station (gaya) a shared auto charges INR 10/- pp to drop close by to Vishnupad temple and from here to Bodhgaya temple a shared auto will charge about INR 15/- pp.
Word of advise.
If you're not going there for a Hindu ceremony then please stay away from the numerous pujaaris...If you're going with the view of doing PIND-DAAN, then no sooner you reach the temple outskirts you'll be surrounded by priests and they will direct you to a priest who specifically does the puja for your region.

Are there no fixed Pricing system imposed by Temple authorities like in many South Indian Temples to aversion among Hindus on the great rituals of sacred Hindu Dharma just because of those unruly and unethical Pandas. What is a near realistic price for performing the Pinda Pradaan with full devotion and satisfaction (Pandaas not compromising in the performance of sacred ritual). Please guide us to have an idea before one coming to the Sacred Vishnu Pada to perform the Pinda Pradaanam)

kindly approach bharat sevashram directly. take an auto outside the station and go to their ashram directly. they will arrange everything and also have fooding lodging
