We arrived in Cairo at 10pm after 24 hours of flying from the USA, and by 8am we were on our way to Saqqara. This was an incredibly good way to start our trip, as it allowed us to experience the pyramids in roughly chronological order of building, and get much greater insight into them than a trip to Giza alone. After Saqqara and Dashour, we enjoyed lunch at a Saqqara farmhouse, one of the highlights of our whole trip, and the did Giza in the afternoon. We highly recommend this as a day one itinerary for any first-time family visit to Egypt. We travelled with three boys aged 12-15, and particularly enjoyed going inside Teti's pyramid and seeing the Step pyramid complex. We arranged our itinerary through Real Egypt and had a fantastic guide, driver and lunch experience at Sakkara that we requested specifically having seen Djed offer it.…

We visited saqqara step pyramids on last day of our trip. Kids enjoyed the place as it is less crowded as compared to giza pyramids. It is an extensive archaeological site comprising of several monuments like the Step Pyramid of Djoser, Pyramid of Unas, Pyramid of Sekhemket, Mastaba of Ti. A must place visit. The museum is also very neat and there is almost no crowd. So one can enjoy seeing things in peace.…

I first visited Saqqara in 1983 and then again in ‘99, as part of a day-long trip to sites in the area. I wanted to spend more time than the 60-90 minutes you get on tours so I went on my own via Uber. Lots to see - you can see everything that’s open in about a day. With the pandemic, you’ll have large parts of Saqqara to yourself. The downside is that the people who work there, formally or informally, are desperate for cash and will pester you for outrageous amounts of money for things like unlocking the doors to individual tombs, which you’ve already paid for a ticket to see (and photograph, for 300 pounds more). I get it and I sympathize but it leads to uncomfortable conversations when you don’t hand over what they expect. Always settle on any amount for anything up front. All of that being said, Saqqara is an absolute must see.…

Went to the most famous step pyramid of Zoser. It is not open to the public but can be viewed from the outside. The Step Pyramid is 180 feet high and is surrounded by a large funerary complex. Upon entering the complex, you will enter the hypostyle hall which has 40 pillars which leads into the Great South Court where the pyramid is located. It is more interesting if you have a guide explain what you are seeing.…
