Another one of Sophy Gray's inspired creations!

I have grown to love the churches designed by the wife of the first Bishop of Cape Town, Robert Gray and here, nestled in the shadow of Boschberg mountain, is another charming example of her work!
The building's gracious proportions are immediately apparent, its characteristic 55 degree roof angle, the length of the original nave twice its width - all indications that this was indeed Sophy's work!
I phoned in advance to enquire whether it would be possible to view the interior and was privileged enough to be shown around ((thank you, kindly, Mr Greenshields). It was great to marvel at the roof trusses still exposed, as Sophy intended, and to admire the exquisite stained glass windows which have been so painstakingly restored.
As with many old buildings, time takes its cruel toll and unfortunately maintenance work is costly . It saddens me to see that here is SA, demolition of older buildings seem to be the order of the day - just wish that funding, or more funding, could be acquired to preserve these National treasures for posterity. But do yourself a favour and spend some time here, appreciating all the aspects that make this place of worship, so special!
