About
Medieval castle located in Tuscany between Castiglion Fiorentino e Cortona on a pleasant and very panoramic position overlooking the beautiful Val di Chiana and Val di Chio. The architectural complex has a thousand-year history, from the tower of the 12th century and the village of the 13th and 14th centuries, going through different periods of changes until today. Today it is an important archaeological site that, thanks to the numerous restorations promoted by the current owner, can now be visited by appointment. To stay updated on the visits promoted by the cultural association "Incastro" and other activities organized in the castle visit the social pages. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A nice little town with an historic inner circle. Not spectacular, okay. Like many other italian cities as well. we visited the city as we stayed in the valley. The view from the castle into direction Tuscany.
Would not specifically plan a visit there.

The castel isn't permanently opened for visitors, but if you want to visit it, you can call for an appointment (telephone number on the website). We walked around the castel and it's impressive to see the hight of the walls and to feel like a medieval knight for a while. We didn't take the guided tour, but we were lucky enough to get a quick peek because someone was kind enough to open the door for us. Next time we we will certainly take the tour!

This castle is privately owned but you can book a tour which takes place once a month by emailing associazione.incastro@gmail.com It costs €10 per person.
The castle has a fascinating history and the owner lives there in one of the original houses that sit within the walls. The tour guide we had was an archaeologist who didn’t speak English so if you didn’t understand Italian you wouldn’t get to hear and appreciate the centuries of history. But I wouldn’t let that put you off visiting as the interior and views from the castle were amazing. I was secretly a bit envious of the owner who had the pleasure of living in such an historical and beautiful castello.

Seen from the valley below the majestic tower crowns the hilltop walls and the passing tourist is left open-mouthed in wonder. Unfortunately it is not open to the public and in spite of the work carried out for many years by the private owners out of their own pockets Father Time has not been kind to this fortified village,a true castle.

We were fortunate enough to have a private tour with the owner of this property and she - as well as the gardens - was amazing. Has lived there for 40 years and has brought it to life. The views of the surrounding countryside were spectacular as well. It was one of the best hours of our trip listening to her and wandering the property. I strongly encourage you to make an appointment to visit. There’s no actual fee to get in but a donation is certainly welcome and very much appreciated.

Unfriendly owner. She objected to our visiting with a dog, a well behaved Golden Retriever, so that we had to take turns inside as the other was dogsitting our per.. She also had an aggressive reaction when my girlfriend stepped on an insignificant Rick to shoot a better picture. Skip this site, not worth it.

Do not miss out on a visit here - not so easy to find but trust that the small and deserted road will lead you to this piece of Tuscan fortification where you will be amazed by the view

Located on a hill overlooking the village of Montecchio, it harkens back to the days of the middle ages. You can almost imagine walking into the walled castle and seeing vendors, jesters and the pageantry associated with medieval Europe. Its location makes for a great photo wherever you are on the valley floor.

This is a 13th century look out tower but the views of the country side are really spectacular. Worth the walk to the top of the hill.

A few kilometers away from Castiglione Fiorentino there is this panoramic castle which is worth a visit. Near the car park there is a beautiful panoramic point overlooking the Val di Chiana and Castiglion Fiorentino. For those wishing to visit the castle, guided tours are periodically organised.
