Phnom Sombok is around 93metres high (lots of stairs), and the views at the top really are breathtaking.

The buildings themselves are actually very grand and beautiful too (although poorly maintained), and the atmosphere is calming and peaceful.

The one real issue we had was finding a monkey chained up with a couple of rotten bananas hanging in front of him (we are not here to judge customs or practises at all, but personally for us this was incredibly sad to see, it was extremely hot, and he was chained up alone with no obvious water supply).

After a good rest at the Kampi Resort, I suggest you to visit the Phnom Sombok in 3 steps. At every step you will enjoy all the marvellous artistic work done and the very beautiful view. At the top of the Phnom, you can enter a Pagoda then do some pray.

Stopped off on the way back from seeing the dolphins and was a little nervous about the monkeys. Didn’t see any on the way up. In fact we didn’t see any live monks or tourists. I guess it was lunchtime. There are a series of stairways with monk statues going all the way to the top from which there are views through the high trees of the surrounding countryside. Saw a few monkeys on the lower level on the way down but they seemed more interested in the food a monk had just given them than us.
Worth a visit so long as you can climb a lot of stairs.

The pagoda is stunning and the views are unbeatable on a clear - weather day but apart from looking around the pagodas, there is not much else to do. We ended up doing a mini photo shoot through the trees!

I went there in the morning during a sightseeing tour with a TukTuk. After climbing up the stairs you reach the center of the pagoda. There are steps on the left and the right leading to the two peaks of the hill. I turned left and climbed up a few stairs when I saw the monkeys. Just when I tried to take a picture I was attacked by one of them that tried to bite me. Luckily I got rid of the monkey and could run away. When I wanted to go back to the TukTuk there were 3 dogs that barred my way. I waited on a bench until they were gone. What a horrible experience.

Stopped in on a day tour and was one of the highlights, lots and lots of stairs to climb but it is the only mountain in the region and the views of the Mekong alone are worth the walk.
The pagoda is in three parts and very interesting, the walk seems to tell a story though very little is in English but good to take your time and walk:around the complex. Approached by a monk and assistant who had some questions about the Samsung tablet my wife was using to take photos, interesting experience trying to communicate as in the region the language barrier is more obvious than in others but still many people will take the opportunity to practice some English even if hello is the only word known.

This place is called the temple of men and women and on top of the mountain is an area where monks meditate days and weeks. its not easy to find but locals know the way. take some hours to stay here. its has also an amazing view over the landscape.

Very nice temple, different from most of the temples found in the region as it is set on the top of a hill and there are various small temples / levels to access. The stairs of monks is very original as well, and the whole area quite peaceful. I was a bit weary as i was told that there were monkeys but these are not attacking humans and just keep playing among themselves! The many stairs also provide a nice workout and nice views once you reach the top and serenity. A must do if you are in Kratie!
