Such a beautiful building
Aug. 2021 • Couples
Lagg distillery.
Southern part of the island.
Such a beautiful building as you drive by and we’ll situated for anyone driving by.
A welcome at the door, which was unusual but nicely done.
We had booked via email and given our tickets once paid. The shop, cafe and whole centre were available to walk round. I saw easy access for wheelchair users and probably all mobility scooters. Lifts to the upper floor.
The toor was taken by Fiona who showed great excitement for this relatively new build. The toor started with ‘Lagg peated new’ a 62% drink. We went round the whole workshop seeing the various stages of production (as this was a maintenance day we were allowed to stick our noses in everything). Very interesting that the more copper surface area touched the smoother and sweeter the whisky (spoiler alert).
The final part was the impressive tasting table (such craftwork) where we partook in one drink. This was not part of this brewery as it’s only 2 years since the first cask was set and we would need to wait for another year to sample, this was from the sister plant in Lochranza. We kept the glasses, not stolen, part of the experience.
Recommend to others, yes but come now and definitely in a few years when they have their own whisky too.
Come again, definitely but once the kegs have matured.

Distillery visit
Sep. 2021
We spent a lovely morning here recently while holidaying on Arran. The building is spectacular and very impressive. The experience was greatly enchanted by the first class customer service we received and in particular Jane who served us drinks in the outdoor bar while the sun shone. She was so lovely chatting and sharing the whisky process etc to my 93 year old dad. What a fantastic asset to the Lagg Distillery team.

Our building certainly is striking and we are delighted that you enjoyed your time with us. Thank you also for the very kind words for Jane who will be so pleased to read them. We're all delighted that Jane was able to help make the visit extra enjoyable for you both and especially your Dad. We will look forward to welcoming you back the next time you are on Arran.

Excellent tasting at an exciting young distillery
Jul. 2021
I recently visited Lagg as part of a whistle-stop day trip to Arran and enjoyed a tasting

Both the distillery itself and its setting are absolutely beautiful and it would be well worth a visit just to have a coffee and look out over the water, especially on nice days

Lagg is a very new distillery - the first cask was filled in 2019 which means they will not bottle anything that can be called Scotch whisky until 2022 at the earliest. This means that the whiskeys in the tastings at the moment are actually from their sister distillery Lochranza

Lagg is also dedicated to heavily peated whisky production and they have a range of interesting plans for what they are going to try. The tasting was led by Fiona and she did a great job of both presenting the (Lochranza) drams we were sampling and sketching the vision of what Lagg will be doing with its own production in the years to come. As always, the experience of any given whisky is an extremely individual thing but do keep in mind the peat focus - some people really don't like anything that's peated at all so the selection is probably not going to be to their liking

The tasting was rounded off by a sample of Lagg's new make spirit - it's always really interesting to taste this when you can and Lagg's is very rich and distinctive

I've never visited a distillery at such an early stage of its development and it was really fascinating to get the sense of where it's going. It will be very interesting to return in future once it has its own bottlings to offer and see how its journey is progressing

Unfortunately we had to dash off straight away after the tasting so I didn't get a chance to visit the shop or the Shieling Bistro. All the more reason to go back...

Thank you very much for such a positive and informative review, we really appreciate you taking the time to write this. We are delighted that you had a great tasting with Fiona and enjoyed learning about the short history of Lagg Distillery and hearing about our future plans for the company's newest exciting venture. We hope you can return again, in the not too distant future, to see our progress and enjoy sampling a dram of "Lagg Single Malt Scotch Whisky" whilst relaxing in the Shieling Bistro and taking in our wonderful coastal views.

Excellent food, friendly staff
Jun. 2021 • Couples
We are most impressed with both the staff, and the food at the Lagg distillery.
We visited twice over the last fortnight. Our first visit was to The Shelling, and we ordered a selection of the tapas-style plates. We thoroughly enjoyed each one. We were served by Jane and she, and all the staff were very friendly and efficient.
On our next visit, we wanted to sit outside as we had our dog with us, so had lunch in The Kilmory Cafe. Again the staff, including the lovely Shannon, were very attentive and an asset to the cafe. We opted for the hot dogs which were delicious. We are looking forward to our next visits!

Thank you very much indeed for the lovely review of both The Shieling and Kilmory Cafe! We are so delighted that you came to visit both whilst on Arran. Thank you especially for the kind comments for Jane and Shannon who will be delighted to read them. Our dedicated team has worked hard to develop a varied, interesting menu which showcases the very best of local and Scottish produce and it's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your dishes. The Scottish hot dogs in family friendly Kilmory Cafe are always a hit and our tapas style plates accompanied by the stunning views from The Shieling is definitely something to experience when on Arran. Thanks again and we look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit.

Tasting visit was exceptional. Really well looked after by Katy who is stunningly well informed about the business and the island and the development plans. Great tastes to enjoy. Other staff were informative and very helpful.

Great service
May 2021 • Couples
We enjoyed the food and were grateful we were able to eat in, in spite of the alcohol ban. The staff were outstanding and so knowledgeable about the whisky they are in the process of producing.
The shop was not great but I am sure it will get better.
