About
Raptor Domain is open 11:00-4:00 daily (Closed Christmas Day). During SA school holidays gates open at 10.30am. We have bird presentations at 11.30am and 2.30pm where visitors can have an up close experience with free-flying birds of prey. Volunteer participation throughout the show allows visitors to interact with a range of birds but visitors can also purchase a ticket to hold a Wedge-tailed Eagle at the end of the presentation. We also have a reptile presentation at 1.00pm where visitors can get up close with a range of reptiles in a safe, educational environment. There is the opportunity to hold snakes and lizards if visitors would like to, but if not, then watching is also encouraged.

- Randall M1 contributionAn Incredible ExperienceThis was a genuinely incredible and unforgettable experience, especially with the private session. The staff were fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable. And the birds and reptiles were stunning. We could tell that they were very well cared for and very well loved. We would encourage anyone to include Raptor Domain on their list of activities while visiting Kangaroo Island. And, finances permitting, the private experience is absolutely worth the price. For people of the right mindset, it has the potential to be life-changing. One word of warning: the catering options are extremely limited, with a few sandwiches being the only real food available. We were at the venue from mid-morning to mid-afternoon (attending all of the available sessions). Luckily, we had some food in the car for the fussier family members, but it would have been too easy to be unprepared and find ourselves going without lunch. But that shouldn't put anyone off. This is a truly amazing place, the care and pride taken by the staff are obvious, and it absolutely belongs at the top of the wishlists of any visitors to Kangaroo Island.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 October 2023
- GregTrav28Orlando, Florida697 contributionsMust doAwesome show for adults and kids alike. My 3.5year old really enjoyed all the birds even (or especially) when they didn't behave. The presenters were great and very knowledgeable and my wife and I learned alot from them. It's a fair price for an hour show and if the crowd is small enough you'll get owl time on your lap and maybe let a bird land on your gloved arm. Absolutely a must stop if you have time in KI.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 March 2024
- Mari ASydney, Australia55 contributionsWonderful interactive experienceGetting up close and learning about those beautiful birds of prey was a delightful experience. I had second thoughts about going but I'm so pleased I did. Watching the birds soar and in flight was magical esp the glossy black cockatoo. The owl and eagle (pretty heavy) hold was well worth the experience.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 16 April 2024
- Louisa K6 contributionsFive stars all around! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟For the third time, I was fortunate to visit Raptor Domain and do the private experience. This unique opportunity allows you to get up close and personal with many of the magnificent birds they care for. Keeper Chloe's passion for these gorgeous creatures, her extensive knowledge and professionalism made the experience both educational and enjoyable. Chloe shared fascinating information about each bird, their habits, and their role in the ecosystem. The highlight of the experience was undoubtedly the intimate interactions with the birds. Chloe ensured that we had plenty of time to observe, ask questions, and most importantly, capture incredible images of the birds. Whether it was the majestic eagles or the gorgeous owls, every moment was a photographer's dream come true. Chloe's expertise and care in handling the birds and her ability to position them perfectly for photos was truly impressive. Following the private experience, we attended the bird show, which was the perfect way to conclude our visit. The show was a thrilling display of the birds' natural behaviours and skills, set against the backdrop of the beautiful surroundings of Raptor Domain. I highly recommend the private experience at Raptor Domain to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable wildlife encounter. The combination of personal interaction, education and photographic opportunities is unparalleled. So if you're a bird enthusiast, a photographer, or simply someone looking to learn more about these incredible creatures, this experience is not to be missed.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 June 2024

We unfortunately missed the reptile show but the In Flight show was awesome. As a large family group ranging in all ages we all really enjoyed the show and the information about each beautiful bird and what we can do to help keep our birds safe. The experience to hold a wedgetailed eagle was definitely the highlight for most of the group (extra $10 per person). We had a 4yr old with us who didn't want to miss out on a extra hold so they organised to bring out a smaller falcon for her to hold after we had all held the wedgetail.
During the show you get loads of chances to interact with many different birds and the options to say yes or if you'd like the birds to land on your lap. Definitely recommend this one

We stopped in at the Raptor Domain for the afternoon show after a late morning quad tour and before visiting Little Sahara. It was the perfect stop in between these two activities and we highly recommend it for all ages. We weren’t sure what to expect and were really surprised at how entertaining and educational it was. We had the opportunity for quite a bit of interaction with the birds, which was awesome! The trainers really know the birds and it’s great to see them interact. This is a lovely family run wildlife center, and with the recent fires on the island they are sure to be needing the support.

There was a huge price hike for the private shows when the new owners took over. I hope the money is going to more conservation efforts. I also don’t think the women in the visitor centre/shop area liked our guide as they were making unkind comments about him. Soured the experience a bit. Everyone had been very friendly and competent over phone and email prior to getting there.
Blake knew a lot about the birds he brought out, and I’m sure his confidence will grow as he continues to get more experience. It was very funny when the kookaburras refused to behave and return but he managed it very well. It would have been great if we could have had a few more minutes to make up for this, but timing is tight with the first show so it wasn’t a big hassle.
The birds themselves were amazing and it was a privilege to be so close to them. Definitely a worthwhile experience overall. It was wonderful to see the owls move, and the eagle was so beautiful and heavy!

It may have been drizzly, but that didn't spoil the viewing from the little barn owl to the beautiful white sea eagle to the majestic wedge tailed eagle. There's the white back magpies' "party trick", the "loud mouthed" squawking black cockatoos, and the ability to wear the leather glove on which a bird can perch for a few minutes. It costs extra to hold the wedge tailed eagle, but you need to be strong to hold this big bird. Grey days can be great for a visit as there are fewer customers. It's good that Raptor Domain is a sanctuary for injured birds. Definitely worth visiting.

The place was very well run. The owner was lovely and very on-point regarding the COVID restrictions, making sure that people didn't bunch up while waiting. When we got to the arena the presenters again made sure that those that knew each other were ok together but moved others if they were too close. Hub and I were alone on a 5 person bench, which was ideal COVID spacing so HATS OFF to them for being so strict with it all.
The presenters were amazing. Their knowledge was great and they clearly loved their birds and their jobs.
I was really impressed how they kept making sure that everyone had an experience with a bird, ensuring that if you didn't get a chance with one bird you could with another. That was very impressive as some places just don't give that level of attention to their audience. Another impressive thing was they kept ensuring people got their photo. "Did you get your photo?" they'd ask before taking the bird back. Simply great!! Or making sure the bird was facing the right way for the photo so the audience member got the best image they could.
Paid a measly $10 more and had the chance to hold a Wedged-Tailed Eagle. So worth it. Would have paid more so was surprised it was so well priced.
The owner should be happy with her staff and her whole show and shop. Simply the best thing on the island in my opinion!!

This is a great, interactive, way to learn about certain bird species. The whole thing is done outside (after a short walk from the entry point). This gives the birds plenty of room to show off their stuff.
While they are flying around, zipping between the crowd, or sitting on your lap, the staff is giving you a very informative run down on their life and their activities.
The hour went so quick, with plenty of photo ops, and time to ask questions, it ended with some close up time with a small (relatively) Australian Wedge Tail Eagle.
Another Kangaroo Iskand must do.

Whilst waiting for the morning show we were fascinated by the wrens in the native plants surrounding the buildings. The Birds of Prey show was very informative. The birds are in great condition and the flight demonstrations really highlighted how amazing the birds are. When the presenters walked around with the birds on their arms the feather colourings and detail were impressive. It was also good as were able to identify birds we later saw in the wild from what we saw in the show.

Even though my husband & I have mild phobias concerning birds we thoroughly enjoyed the show and gained respect for these amazing & majestic creatures. The guides present the birds in a very informative & fun way. It was an amazing experience.

I’ve been coming to KI for years but had never made it to the Birds of Prey. Recently decided to take a couple of grandkids there (7 and 2) sooo pleased I did!
Seated in the front row of the outside display area, we were treated to an amazing display of various sized birds flying, swooping and performing for their very knowledgeable trainers ..there is an obvious affection between trainers and birds. Highlights were being able to stroke a Harry Potter type owl seated on my lap, and having a huge wedge tailed eagle perch on my arm. The kids were captivated throughout the show.. even the 2 yr old.
Make sure you sit in the front row if you want to participate.

We did both talks, the birds and the snakes. The presenter made sure everyone got to hold or touch one of the animals, and it wasn’t just skewed towards children, even us oldies got a go. They also kept the talking while this happened, with very interesting information, so you were never bored. Highly recommend .

Would love any information on the private experiences - the private reptile show and the private photo shoot, mainly was it worth the money? Would love to do one but so hard to choose.

Hi
We only booked the raptor display. You can make your mind up to book a private showing while you're there.
