- VGTravelGirlSt. Albert, Canada2,132 contributionsCombine with other attractionsWe hired a taxi/driver for a private trip fro Oaxaca City out to the Tule Tree, the rug makers, the small Mitla Ruins and Huerve del Agua. The cost was $350 pesos per hour - and the trip took 7 hours. The tree itself is a short stop - you have to buy an inexpensive ticket to get near the tree - then you walk around it. It is impressive as it is large and 2,000 years old. There are restrooms nearby as well as food, if you are interested.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 January 2024
- Darrel B140 contributionsImpressive treeThe tree is over 2,000 years old and there is another younger tree that is about 1,000 years old on the south side of the church. Great place to visit. Fantastic manicured gardens and beautiful plants. Nice street art in the area as well.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 February 2024

The tree is sensational! Of course it doesn't take very long to see a tree (there is a path around it), but the village of Mitla is a destination in itself. Colorful and well-manicured with beautiful flowers and other trees, landscaping, and beautiful buildings, we would have loved to spend a night here to see it at night.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 March 2024

We stopped in Tule (not far from Oaxaca City) to see the tree on our way to Hierve de Agua. Said to be the largest circumference of any tree in the world, and it’s over two thousand years old. Very impressive! No photo could take the place of seeing it in person. Worth the visit.

Our first stop today was the Montezuma cypress called the De Santa Maria del Tule. TA.P. This tree is said to be 2,000 years old, 164 feet around and 116 feet tall. It is the widest tree in the world at 45 feet. The largest known single stem tree on earth is the General Sherman sequoia at 102 feet around and 275 feet tall. Cost 10 pesos per person to get inside the fence. Have other trees of the same species in town, with one being 1,000 years old

Tree of Tule is a great big tree located in a small community of Tule not far from Oaxaca City. The tree claims the title of the widest tree in the world and whether it is that or it isn't it is a very impressive specimen. It can be viewed up close from the street or from the nearby municipal esplanade. There is no admittance fee. The size of the tree is best witnessed from a good distance away where one can easily see that it is easily twice as tall as the nearby church and it dwarfs the neighboring city hall. Nice little field trip from Oaxaca City but nowhere nearly as impressive as the giant sequoias or redwoods.

Santa Maria del Tule is a picturesque little town in Oaxaca... very careful, clean, organized... it is a small but very nice place.
You have to buy tickets to be able to access the atrium of the parish where the Tule tree is... I don't remember if it was 20 or 50 pesos per person.
Knowing Tule as such, ie majestic, is worth the visit.
Just like the food market, everything is delicious and very clean... without a doubt if you enter through the main door on the right side there is a juice stand with the best "Tejate" that we tried in Oaxaca...
The craft market has a little bit of everything, but especially the embroidered clothing is very pretty.
It is the second time I visit it, but I will definitely love to do it again every time I return to Oaxaca

I came to visit this giant tree as part of a tour. There is an entrance fee. There is a fence around this giant beast so you cannot get up and close but it’s beautiful to look at. Not a lot in close vicinity to see asides from this so it was off the bus for a few photos before leaving!

Wow! Just wow! Words fail me with this amazing gift of nature. 2000+ years old, this tree was a sapling when the Roman Empire was just getting started. And you think your neighborhood is historic? This is a living witness to the world. And it looks the part, huge, just majestic. As I list the many 'must see' natural things to see in Mexico, this goes on the list, right by the Monarch Butterfly reserve. Go, visit this tree. It is almost a spiritual experience. The town too is lovely and clean, should be a "Puebla Magico", I think, but it's glorious that they know the value of such a tree and look to care for it. The entrance fee was a mere 20 pesos. Just amazing, truly.

Said to be the widest circumference of any tree in the world. Truly glorious and surrounded by a small park for protection. The gardens and an adjacent church add to the visit. Well w orth the stop in this small town

It’s all about the tree trunk, Went to see the Tule tree and it was pouring rain. Saw the tree from outside and saw that it was big. Fortunately we waited for the rain to stop and paid to USD$1 to see the tree.. it was definitely worth it. The girth of the tree is amazing.

Sà se puede, yo lo visité hoy y pude entrar con mis dos perros sin ningún problema. A diferencia de la otra respuesta, considero que hay suficientes lugares en Oaxaca que puedes visitar con tu perro. Saludos.

we are visiting Oaxaca next weekend, I would appreciate that someone can tell me what is the best way to save $$ visiting pueblos mancomunados, is it necessary to rent a vehicle to get there ?or public transportation is worth and safe? thanks

Hi,
what I did is grab a cab from your hotel or even in the street and propose them to hire for one day trip or hald day, they charge by hour. signals are not always clear nor the roads, I think is the best option same price and maybe cheaper than renting.
do not expect a limousine, it will be a compact Nissan, lucky you if it has AC.
hope is useful
regards!

Not much really. Unless you want to see the small shops around. There's only the tree and the chapel. But the town is like all other towns, so you can look around if you want. Have fun on the trip!
