We arrived at Maribojoc Mangrove , contact info at Facebook , to view the fireflies. At first, we thought we will not see them because of the rains. According to the boatmen, they come out after raining and better to see them in a moonless night. Due to recent typhoon that wrecked havoc in Bohol and the boats that cruised Abatan river, boat rides are limited to just 2, so long waiting time. The fireflies are just a delight to see. I believe this is also featured in other parts of Bohol like Loay.

It's an idea place for the popular firefly tour. The one in loay is priced steeper because it includes a buffet and various entertainment you can skip. For a cheaper, equally unforgettable experience, you can visit the town of Cortez, just a few minutes from the city, to see the fireflies.

We went there with my tita. You should have ask directly with them. You can choose between Boat (600Php per head) or Kayak (500Php per head). I', a bit disappointed with the information of lonely planet because from (1800php per head) in their book, it is only 600 Php.
They welcomed us with fresh buko juice. We started in the boat at 7pm and we finished by almost 8:30pm

Abatan River Community Life Tour Fire flys

We booked direct and got a moto-trike from alona beach 800 return, when we got there we
Were given a coconut as a welcome drink. We chose the option of a private motor boat with skipper and guide. The motor boat took us to 6 sites where the flies live. Very mesmerising.
Well worth it.

We only experienced this via the firefly tour but what we saw was peaceful and pretty, with relatively few other tourists.

A wonderful, natural tour on this river is realy recommended. Somewhere much more interesting for nature lovers then the Loboc river. Loboc river is much more a touristic attraction. The Abatan river I also want to din the night time cos there must be thousands of fireflies there.

Travel with local village representatives who are working with local fishermen to help protect the fireflies in the trees along this river.

You are welcomes with a fresh cocnut, and taken with your group in a private boat along the river and back, regulalrly spotting what looks like the most amazingly decorated Christmas trees along the river - 1,000s of fireflies in the tress making their own pulsating rhythms.

A highlight of Bohol.

We wanted to see the fireflies, so went to Abatan river, but went a bit early and arranged with the boat man, to take us a bit early, when it s still not dark, so we can enjoy the river.

We enjoyed the tour, and took some good photos, plus when it got dark, we where impressed with the big quantity of fireflies. It was my first time to encounter the fireflies so amazed me a bit more.

At first I spent some minutes trying to get good photos of the fireflies, but when I noticed that it s not easy, I decided to just relax watching and enjoying the view, instead of wasting my time trying

Went for the Night Boat ride to watch the fire flies. This was a very interesting tour as we did not expect the view of so many little blinking lights concentrated in specific trees. Better then most xmass trees.

Group of 9 visited at 7pm one evening and enjoyed our hour cruise..
Lots of firefly in the mangrove trees and I'm told the later you go the Better.
We hired a boat instead of paying per person which helped us...
Note....only go if it's fine as in or after rain there is nothing to see.....
