- Kristy W1 contributionAltina was truly amazing and an experience to rememberAltina is truly an amazing place to visit. We visited back in September school holidays and toured around on horse and cart and Rebecca provided an informative one on one experience, you can tell she definitely loves and cares for all the animals at Altina. If you have time I definitely recommend doing an animal experience, we done the lion experience with our son. It was definitely an experience to remember and will be back soon for another visit and more experiences.Visited September 2022Travelled with familyWritten 9 December 2022
- TES4 contributionsWell worth a visitThe horse draw cart taking us around the property was great. Our guide gave us so much information about each of the animals and it was obvious that all the staff really care about the animals in their care. Loved the fact that the animals are protected from too much interaction with the public but at the same time guests could see them naturally. Am not generally a lover of zoos but really appreciated the set up and could see that the animals were happy and well cared for. Thank you to all the staff who were so incredibly helpful.Visited August 2023Written 19 August 2023
- Wayne G4 contributionsFabulous Wildlife ParkWe drove over from Wagga and the drive wasn't wasted. What Fabulous zoo. We went around on the carriage drawn by a beautiful Clydesdale named Jack. Our guide for the morning was Rebecca and was very friendly and very informative. Highly recommend for anyone travelling thru the Riverina to call in at Altina.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 September 2023

Absolutely hands down the best wildlife park I’ve visited, our tour guide Cat was wonderful and patient answering everyone’s questions.
Most importantly the animals are absolutely thriving in the picturesque bush nestling the beautiful Murrumbidgee River they look so happy and healthy
Book ahead as the tours are guided and numbers through the gates are small for each tour, which gives it a personal feel without the crowds and gives people a chance to ask any questions they might have

I was lucky enough to do the Zookeeper experience and it was absolutely incredible! I helped clean out the Meercats cage and feed too many animals to list, basically i got to follow my wonderful Zookeeper, Ash, as she went about her day and ask the poor girl a million questions, all of which she answered happily and very knowledgably. Getting to be so close to animals I noticed things I never had before, Zebras have a mohawk and rhinos are just so big! Feeding the lions, giraffes and monkeys that jump on your head was amazing, seeing the red panda come down to get the bamboo we just cut, adorable. It was a huge day and I was exhausted at the end, zookeepers work really, really hard. Thank you Altina for an unforgettable experience

This is the best Zoo I have ever been to! The way that you can only travel around with the keepers and in a horse drawn cart.. what a great experience. Some of the animals I saw here I never even knew existed... I am so impressed with the conservation efforts of this place.

An amazing variety of animals in a smallish zoo! Before the tour, we walked around the enclosures with smaller animals. Highlight had to be a male black-capped capuchin “pleasuring himself”. We took a horse-drawn cart for our tour, which was narrated by a great guide, Clinton. He was very friendly and in formative.
Would highly recommend for anyone.

Hi Carolyn Adults $38. Children 2 to 16. $18. and under 2 free.
Booking is necessary as there is only limited seating on the horse drawn carts. Public holidays there is a $5 surcharge.
You do get coffee/tea and biscuits at the end of the tour.
Who is the youngest staff member and how long did it take to learn how to feed and take care of all the animals
Rebecca S
Darlington Point, Australia
The youngest staff members are 17yrs and 19yrs old. Both of these staff members are trainees. Animal training is very intense and can take different amounts of time for each specific staff member both young and old depending on the individuals prior experience, personality, commitment and of course common sense. General animal work is learnt within about 3 months (feeding animals at troughs and cleaning enclosures to high standards) but majority of high risk tasks and carnivore work can take up to 2yrs to learn. Tour training is also dependant on the individual with motorised and mini zoo talks being learnt within a year but horse driving can be any number of years depending on prior experience and the ability to read the horse they are driving. All training is supervised carefully by fully qualified keepers in each field. Age is just a number really with dedication and love for animals a must!
